Hello, The turnbuckle on my tie rod seems to be seized. Is there a secret to removing the tie rod/ends on a Yanmar 1500D? I have removed the nut on one side, the other side turns the threaded portion of the tie rod end with no apparent way to hold it. ie: there is no head to the bolt to hold to remove the nut, it appears to be inside the cap of the tie rod end. My hope is I can remove the tie rod and break the turnbuckle loose, or just replace it.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice!

Kurt

id have to go look at my 2000 to fully understand what your talking about, but my guess is if u think its seized it probly is. Try the heat wrench, i mean heat it up not torch it off.

Heat the turnbuckle with a propane torch and let candle wax or paraffin seep into the threads. It will loosen.

Thanks, I will try that. Does anyone happen to know how to remove the tie rod ends? I got the castle nut off on the right side, but on the left side the bolt turns and I cannot find any way to keep it form turning while trying to remove the castle nut.

thanks again

I use an air chisel and a blunt end to break the tierod ends loose, how ever if you don't have one,
usually if you flip the nut over and run it down flush with with the end of threads/stud give it a tap with a hammer it should break free, it helps to support the bottom steering arm just away from the tie rod end while tapping on the nut,............. as for getting the nut off the other side... if you have a impact gun this will usually spinn it loose, but again if no impact tool... and if you are re-using them you could use a pickle fork to hold lever against the ball while turning the nut but be careful not to dammage the rubber boot, can also try the picklefork to hold pressure while tapping the tie rod loose,
However if you are replacing the tie rod ends then drive the fork in alternating between tapping the stud and tapping the fork into the ball joint untill it breaks free, I am assuming you have already spray them with penetrating oil!
good luck

That side is bad anyway. If you need to get it off, might as well replace it. Cut the bolt off with a hacksaw and remove the end with a gear puller.
