There is a ticking sound coming from the transmission on my BX22 when the tractor is idling. I have noticed this both when it is in gear and not. Everything seems to work fine, with the exception of the fact that sometimes it is difficult to get it out of low range into high or high range into low. The lever seems to have a resistance taking it out of gear. Is this normal or is there something wrong with the tractor? It has been like this since day one and the dealer told me that it is normal operation for a BX. The lever isn't centered when you put it into neutral. It is actually about 1" forward of the neutral indicator. Is this adjustable???

Junkman,
I've only got 55 hours, but my trans has a tick sound to it. I also have noticed that shifting from neutral to low range takes a coulple of tries on occasion. I shift from high then to low and it works fine. Any others with this condition? I also get a (? whirling ?) sound from the tranny. But it just sounds like a pump operating so I think that is normal. Others??

junkman: when u say ideling at what RPM, sometimes i get some strange sounds from my b2400 , but changing the RPM makes them go away. seems odd but some RPMS will make things rattle , but kicking it up a notch will fix it. as far as switching from hi to low range that is normal, just going from netural to lo or high i sometimes have to hit the hydro pedal and then try again.. not really a problem.

I think all of them...BX22, Bx23, Bx2200, Bx2230, Bx1500 and Bx1800 at times make a clicking or clackin sound from the rear, I think it's the hydro pump and I think it's a normal sound, In my case it seems to go away or become less if you raise the rpm's...

I hear it at an idle most of the time, but even at higher RPM, it is still there. Being that it is under warranty, I am not concerned, but just was wondering if it is endemic of the BX series or it is a problem with my machine. Whenever I ask the selling dealer about something that I think is a problem, he just tells me that they are all like that. Example is the gas gauge that doesn't read correctly or the sticking hydro pedal. As much as I like the selling dealer, I think that I am going to consider making a deal to have my machine serviced at another dealer that might be more receptive to correcting defects, rather than saying that everything is normal for a BX.

After carefull analysis based on review of many of your posts I feel it is highly likely you are hearing the electric fuel pump at idle.

Engine noise at operating RPM overcomes the sound of the fuel pump.

Then again, perhaps you heard that same sound when you were on the heliocopterchopper back on April 1st! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

There. I solved your problem. You owe me now... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ticking - does it vary with speed? could there be a twig or some debris in the way of the rear cooling fan?
Shift lever - on my 2200, the lever is centered in neutral. I don't know if it's adjustable, but it seems it should be. Most times it goes into gear very smoothly; when it doesn't, I just rock my body back and forth (I read that in a TBN post), and it then slips right in to gear.
My complaint is with the PTO clutch - most times very hard to engage (no, it's not the detent).

Junkman I have about 160 hrs on my 2003 bx22 tractor. I also notice strange sounds from the transmission. Tractor seems to work ok. When I shift from nutral to high or low speed if it is difficult to shift I do not force it instead I work the forward reverse pedal until it goes in easy David.

I just noticed yesterday on mine, there is a sticker down by the MMM height adj knob that says to do that if it doesn't go in high or low range, also a sticker that says to slightly engage the pto clutch if it won't shift from front to mid or rear position. Funny with so many stickers how easy it is to miss something. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

To relieve the stress on the drive system to make high and low engagement easier try to balance your air pressure differently.
