Branson 4020R
I have a couple other threads here in the last couple weeks as to my installing a third function kit on my 4020R Branson. I'm starting this new one because of an issue with fittings (perhaps not all Branson's have but there are many for sure) on the tractor and my "quest" to resolve the issue. The fitting is the one where you go from the power beyond port on the tractor valve. PTSG was correct in my earlier thread that it IS BSSP, the only ones I have found on the tractor by the way, and are on each end of this hose. The problem is/was that to make a "jumper" hose from the hose from that fitting to your new valve would take a Male end to that hose and then whatever you needed on the other end to hook to the new valve. Follow me so far? Well, I went to three different hydraulic shops with fitting in hand, schematic drawing in hand, and spent a couple hrs with a couple of them (they're friends of mine who have been in the business for many years) going through book after book looking for a way to hook all this together WITHOUT REMOVING THE ENTIRE HOSE FROM THE TRACTOR, couldn't find the needed fitting (just one of them) the old story of, sorry you can't get there from here thing......I was resigned to the fact that I was going to have to remove the hose in it's entirety just to replace the "offending" fitting on the end to something I could work with (JIC, pipe, whatever) when I had an epiphany, call someone who does this for a living (or for customers anyway). I contacted our own Dave's Tractors in Red Bluff and talked to Jared. When I started to tell him of my third function valve woes he knew where I was going almost before I got started. Told me they had what I needed, went out of his way and sent me an e-mail with pictures AND instructions on which went where. (I did not buy my tractor there)This is a BIG THANK YOU FOR JARED AND DAVES TRACTORS.....this is a bit of a more personal consideration, Jared told me what fitting's would work and where they purchased them. I COULD have gone on line and purchased direct instead of from Dave's and saved a few bucks, but with the service I received from Jared, there was no way I was going to do that, I figure his experience and knowledge and willingness to help is worth something even the little bit it cost me. Thanks Dave, you have a good team. I'm impressed.

It is good to hear of dealer's that walk the extra mile. Ever since I have bought my Branson and started following this forum, I have heard nothing but good things about Dave, and his contributions to this forum are always honest and to the point. I would point out that Dave Dealership isn't the only good Branson Dealer around, but he does appear to be one of the most knowledgeable about Bransons.

A great experience with a feel good ending. Thanks for the post.

O.K. fellas, write this down if you're thinking of doing the 3rd function kit on your Branson. The two fittings needed to make this work with the tractor BSSP fittings are: From Discount Hydraulics, 9337-08-08 JIC male to JIS male 30 degree and a 9220-08-08 a 1/2in JIC male to 1/2in JIS 30 degree female. The 9220 fitting, female end, will go onto the 90 degree fitting that's on the tractor valve, the 9337 JIS fitting end will go into the fitting on the hose end that came FROM that 90 degree fitting. Now you will have two "ends" that are JIC no 8 male, on the tractor 90* fitting and the end of the hose that came from that fitting on the tractor. I'm making this sound more difficult than it is I think. So when you make up the two hoses to go from YOUR NEW VALVE back to the tractor you make the fittings on one end of each hose 1/2in JIC no. 8. female. These go to the tractor and whatever thread fitting is on your new valve on the other end of the new hoses. Sounds clear as mud huh? I used NPT thread fittings on the new third function valve so I had two hoses made with 1/2" JIC #8 female fittings on one end and 1/2" NPT male on the other ends. Yeah, I know :confused2:

Hoses with JIC female are super common. I just use adaptors when I have to connect them to NPT (which is terrible for hydraulic use but too many valves and fittings use it).

The Branson factory backhoe connection adds a loop with quick connects where that 90 degree fitting is on the block on top of the SCV stack (or on the transmission if there's no factory SCV).

My dealer (Daves) added a third SCV for me. They connected it between the loader valve's PB port and the line that goes back from the PB port to the rear SCV valves where you added yours. I think they did it that way so it does not interfere with the backhoe connection.

Yes they are and that is the reason for the two fittings I mentioned. So you can convert/adapt the BSSP fittings on the tractor to the 1/2in JIC #8 fitting.

Finished hooking up the electrical, hot and grd to battery, two sets with connector ends from handle (supplied) to the valve. Hooked up the front plow............IT WORKS...:cool2:
