Hi all,

About a week ago I made a mistake and passed on a great deal for a 94 Ford.

I would prefer a shaft driven mowing deck and a shaft driven snow thrower for winter time. I have seven acres of grass to mow so I need something heavy duty and flexible. Any suggestions or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Is the NH Ford as good as the old school Ford?

Also how difficult is it to get impliments for older tractors?

Regards
WS

If you are refering to 3pt hitch implements.. just buy whatever category your tractor is made ofr.. pretty much no change since 1939 and up.. etc.

I'v owned a couple NH tractors.. a 1920 ( traded ) and my current 7610s Both super tough tractors.

I also own several older fords from 1946 thru 1975.

I have not used any of the 'boomers' I.E. TC series.. so can't directly compair the units.. etc.

I do prefer the 'older' look of the tractors.. that is.. the boxy hoods.. metal clothes.. vs plastic and fiberglass rounded hoods and such.. butt hat is a personal opinion.. not one that effects operation.

Ford Motor Company stopped building tractors long before the one you mentioned was built. They just let New Holland (located in New Holland, Pennsylvania) use the name. The company is owned by Fiat, in Italy at the present time. Exactly when the tractor you looked was built and what model it is will let us give you a better guess as to where it was built.

Modern ones are pretty much a Japanese product, but the tractor business is a very globalized operation. Things are built where the company can get the quality they want at the best overall price. I think most guys here would think the Fords from the mid 90's are pretty good. My FIL had 3 different sized and aged Fords at one time. He's quit farming and kept only one for maintaining his tree farm, the 5000. I'm not sure when it was built, but it runs fine.

I wouldn't worry about either older or newer because of manufacturing differences. Care and maintainence is a whole different topic. Any used equipment has to be judged based on the individual item.

I just bought a Case, which is made on the same assembly line as the NH. I think it's a nicely made machine or wouldn't have bought it. Lots of guys here own NH "boomers". Aside from the dumb name and some disagreement over the sloped hood not looking like a tractor should, there is no serious quality problem evident.

Yeah. Mine says Case IH on it, as well as Farmall, but no mention of NH. I wonder why -- it's not like it's a secret or anything. It's interesting to read the pamphlets the dealers on what is essentially the same series of tractors. They're laid out differently, emphasize different aspects of the machines, contain specs for different things.

The Case booklet, for example, does not list specs for the loaders or backhoes but the "Boomer" book does. It seems the NH is marketed more toward farmers and contractors looking for a small tractor and the Case is aimed toward the "hobby" farmer/landscaping market for whom the compact will be the "big" tractor. That's a little odd since IH and Farmall have been in the Ag business about as long as Ford.
