So my wife and I are discussing the projects we壇 like to do around our new home and we are discussing buying a backhoe. We skipped the backhoe last fall when we bought the tractor but now that the old house is sold and we have a better idea of what we want to do a backhoe is looking a lot more useful than i was thinking. I知 looking at a 2475L with some type of thumb as rebuilding some deteriorated stone walls is in the plan. I知 also trenching for runoff control in the back field and to run electrical conduit to out buildings. I知 sure once I have it I will wonder how I ever lived with out it.

I壇 appreciate any thoughts on this backhoe versus any others that are available for the CK2610, also the mechanical versus hydraulic thumb and of course cost. I was quoted 7300 cash, 8300 72 months @0%, 2200 for the hydraulic thumb kit. Any other considerations I致e overlooked?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Sorry: I can't offer any specific advice.
Yep! Once you have a hoe with (hydraulic)thumb you will never understand how you did without it.
Especially true in the Granite State ,... of cow Hampshire.

So do you think the hydraulic thumb is worth the up charge versus the mechanical thumb?

I do not think you would need to spend big bucks on a hydraulic thumb. A mechanical one does great. You are using the bucket hydraulics to grasp things against the thumb. I would definitely get a mechanical one though. Before spending on a hydraulic thumb, buy a couple different sized buckets... they will be more useful.

As for the BH, yes, you will find a bunch of things to do with it.... even after you completed what you thought you needed it for. I would personally not buy another CUT without one!

Talk to the dealer, get the one that is matched for the tractor. Having one that is adapted to work is just asking for problems. Do not get a 3 point mounted hoe. Get only one with a subframe / 4 point mount.

Hope this info helps you out a bit with your decision.

Do manufacturers like woods offer subframe mounts to fit their backhoes on various machines or are all the non OEM backhoes three point mounted? Sorry if I’m asking what seem to be obvious questions, I’m new to tractors.

You want a subframe backhoe , Better for the tractor ,Some tractor makers will void the warranty on a 3point backhoe, That's what JD said when I got my 770,

Yes, Woods and other manufacturers make subframes for their backhoes. With Woods, you buy like three part numbers: the hoe which is "universal", hose kit specific to your tractor, and the subframe specific to your tractor. Woods, however, does not yet make a subframe for the CK2610/3510/4010 Kiotis. Too new I guess. I know because, after being quoted over 9k from my local dealers for the KB2475L (no thumb), I went looking for other options.

I did have a manual thumb on my previous TLB, and it worked well.
I have a hydraulic thumb now, and it is certainly much better (much easier to use).

I totally agree. I had a manual thumb on my Mahindra 75B backhoe and had it converted to hydraulic appx. 2 months ago. I now use the thumb far more since it is so convenient.

In researching the thumbs the Kioti thumb appears to be a three position mechanical and the only hydraulic thumb I see is a kit from Michigan Iron. They sell their kit for 1450 and I’m being quoted 2200 for the hydraulic. 750 to install the thumb sounds pretty steep. Am I missing something or is it that time consuming to install the thumb?

Also what width bucket would folks recommend for a starter, all around use bucket?
