Tractor
Kubota 5040 with FEL
Hey everyone,

I have a small farm that is around 90 acres that I have done a great deal of work on over the past year. I am hoping that the heavy/rough work is almost done and then it will become mostly maintenance/fun easier work. I currently have a kubota m5040 4wd with a loader on it and I am very happy with it on my property. Lately we have been talking about maybe adding a second tractor or trading my current tractor on another one. I am needing something about the same physical size as my current tractor and would like to stay in the 50-70hp range. If I end up keeping my current tractor then I will be looking for a tractor/cab only(no loader). I was wondering if maybe there isn't a chance that I could possibly buy an older cab tractor with air conditioning and not totally break the bank? I would like to stay with kubota, john deere or the newer new hollands. If I were buying new it would probably be the new holland. I drove one a couple years ago when I bought a m95 Kubota and if the dollars would have been the same then I would have bought the new holland. For the new tractor I would like to get something that is hst but it isn't totally necessary. The main thing is that it has a cat 2 hitch , 4wd, and a cab with air conditioning. Tasks will vary from bush hogging to disking to box blades. thanks.

Sounds like you want/need something very similar to what you have now. I would be thinking of the Kubota M7040 or 8540 with a cab and FEL, just replacing your current 5040. The 7040 is about the same physical size. If you want to go green (and I like green) the Deere 5225 through 5525 cab would be just the ticket, and you could get a 12x12 or even 24x24 transmission as an option, along with some other nice features like the electrohydraulic 3ph control and more remotes than you can shake a stick at. Only reason I'm not discussing NH is because I'm not nearly as familiar with their models in that size range.

I don't think you will find HST on a new tractor that is a true utility and over 50hp. You will find many with hydraulic shuttles (optional on the Kubota Mxx40 series and Deere 5x25 series) which let you shuttle without pushing a clutch and are supposed to last longer than a dry clutch shuttle.

The main thing I hate is that I have spent quite a bit of money putting diverter valves on the loader for my grapple but I guess that the loader could be entirely swapped over to another m series tractor. Plus I have a subframe on my tractor for the backhoe and I would need to get one for the new tractor as well.

The closest thing to a hydro in that size of tractor will be a CVT transmission in a Fendt.

You can see what I have below. I love the cab and the HST. Sounds like that is what you are really after. Kubota has recently done an upgrade to their HST that links the throttle to it so that engine speed matches load. It has gotten rave reviews by those who have driven one but I think it's only available up to just over 50hp .

Here is the link to that thread.
