Not sure if it was the case this time but there are usually a lot of sinkholes in that area when they allow the strawberry growers to pump down the aquifer to protect their crops from freezing temps...

Yeah, when you sit and think of the ways you could die, I don't think having your bedroom fall into sinkhole would even be on the list.

You are correct about this.. When they turn the pumps on, they run all night until the temps come up. I've seen them on at 8 am. One 50 acre field will use several thousand GPM, and a 50 acre field is a small one.

The amount of water pumped from the ground to protect strawberries is nothing short of staggering.
There was only one freeze/one night this winter where I saw water pumped to protect berries. That night was 2 weeks ago. So, comparatively speaking, it was not a bad year for the water table, at least not from strawberries.
