Think my oil pump died

My last chain that had been sharpened to almost the point where it had to be thrown away started stretching real quick while using it. I didn't think much about it and just tossed it and put on a new chain. The bar had the usual oily wood stuck in the bar that I cleaned out.

Now I'm not seeing the usual thin line of oil from the chain when you rev the motor up in front of piece of wood. The chain sounds very noisy and it's also stretching pretty quick. Oil is being used (about a tank per tank of gas) as I run the saw and it doesn't look like it's leaking out.

If I pull the bar and run the motor will oil still come out of the oil port even if the pump is broken? I thought I would try to test it this way tomorrow before tearing it apart.

Take the bar and chain off and run it, if oil comes out it is not the pump. Most likely your issue lies in a dirty bar groove, with the chain removed use a scraper to clean all the gunk out of the bar rail and oil port holes...you should be good to go.

I found it. The oil pump is dead. Started off trying it with the bar off and oil came right out of the port as expected, plenty of oil. Since I had the bar off only a half tank ago there was nothing plugging the oil hole in the bar or the channel for the chain. So put the chain back on, adjusted the chain and within 10 minutes the chain was so loose that I could put my little finger between the bar and chain.

So I shut it off and set it down. Since I was at the house I set it on the bench. After a few moments I found a good sized puddle of oil that looked to be coming out of the screw to adjust the flow on the bottom of the saw. The screw doesn't come in contact with oil but pushes against the gear on the end of the pump shaft. It looks like the seal on the pump shaft has failed.
