Theft

Certainly not a new phenomenon, any popular model that is produced without being changed for several years becomes "easy money" for Chop Shops.
But, why oh why, do people spend $50-70k for a Pickup Truck? Especially when some don't actually even need a truck.

Because they want a pickup and it's their money and they spend it the way they want to.:)

Don't know why they are getting stolen in Canada. But down here in AZ they are a prime target and are usually across the border to Mexico witin hours after being stolen. The dealers are desperate as they take brand new units off the lots two or three at a time.

Yes Mike, the "because its there" answer is obvious. (It was more of a rhetorical question). But, the question was also based partially on the fact that during the course of having repaired so many, I have removed and replaced every part you can take off most brands and I never saw where all that money was.

Now, that I have had time to think, I thought of one reason, perhaps they have a business and would rather use the money for the vehicle, than taxes. That to me makes a certain amount of sense, at least in their case.

If I had 50 - 70 k sitting around with nothing to do . I might make that purchase. In no way would I finance a 50-70 k anything that I destroy every time I use it

I've been retired for 19 years now, but I know the Ford F150 pickups and the Oldsmobile Cutlass were two of the favorite vehicles with the car thieves in Dallas for quite a few years. I guess we don't have to worry about the Cutlass anymore, but I suspect the F150 is still popular.:D

I guess my "Farm Use Only" tags and the fact that I always have a load of junk keeps mine from being stolen... Officer... it has a 1/2 ton of coal in the bed and 12 bags of trash! Plus a few pieces of blow down wood.

In the Toronto area, the car that seems to appear at or near the top of those "top ten most stolen cars" lists that you see published every so often is the Hyundai Tiburon. The HYUNDAI TIBURON for god's sake! I guess when it comes to Toronto car thieves, there's no accounting for taste.
