The President came to town tonight

All day long there have been aircraft buzzing overhead like you stepped on a hornets nest. We live near the airport. Lots of strange sounding stuff coming in and out mostly flying real low so you can hardly see what it is.They have the roads shut down around the area where the dinner is. The paper had a picture of the special vehicle they have for him. Looks like a tank made by Cadilac. I don't think I could stand all the fuss. Guess I'm not cut out to be prez

They sure put on quite a dog and pony show when he comes around. I remember being stuck in rush hour traffic for an hour or so due to a presidential visit.

Well it is a little quieter this morning. I'm almost missing the excitement. Thank goodness the Sewer Authority has their big yellow vacume truck out down the street sucking sludge out of the sewer so we won't be completely bored.

I was working just outside of Boston a couple of years ago when Cheney and the Afghan PM (Kharzia?) were in town for seperate functions. They shut down Rt 128 and 95 (2 of the major feeds in/out of the city) at rush hour so these guys' motorcades could make time. Every overpass was also closed with state police parked on them. Unbelieveable. Traffic was screwed-up for hours that night.

I drove past the Lancaster airport and there were two massive 747's and some marine helicopters parked there. Kinda funny, I am surprised the runway could accomidate such large planes. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything larger than a 60 seater commuter plane there.

"Dad" came to Asheville several years ago. I use to commute past the Airport into town and I remember the day before there was a large black SUV parked on every overpass on the interstate. Was actually pretty cool. There was also an army of Black SUVs swarming all over town and various helicopters in the area. The Asheville airport is pretty small and there was report that came out saying that the plane almost overshot the runway. Think was the first and only 747 that ever landed there.

Several years ago, Clinton came to town here in Raleigh. Same scenario, lots of Black SUVs and helicopters flying all over town. He was here for a democratic fund raiser. Think the dems could have gotten more money if he would have stayed home and sent the money that was saved by not traveling. Was actually pretty cool to see all this though. Kind of wild seeing the "men in black" around and knowing that under those sport coats they were strapped to teeth and who knows what all in the SUV - I felt pretty safe anyway.
