my 23 hp command engine started making a "tapping sound" after sitting a few months. I know the hydraulic lifters have no adjustment sooo..... I was wondering if an exhaust leak (bad muffler) could be causing me to hear this sound. the engine only has 250 hrs and has been well maintained. please help

sometimes it takes a while to refill the lifters on the kohler. the other thing it could be is a groove has worn into the bottom of the lifter because it wasnt turning and it taps when the lobe hits it.
