Hey Kubota, NewFordHolland, John Deere - in case your marketing people look at this site for ideas, I thought I'd post my idea of the ideal tractor - and maybe others would too.

The ideal tractor would have a 5-cyl diesel about 58 gross hp, have 4 same-size tires, and would be articulated. All-wheel hydro drive with smart enough transmission not to need diff lock, progressive hydraulic system (like a modern excavator). And it would weigh about 4500 pounds without loader. The loader would be a 4-link, quick-detach. Overall width would be 72" and it would have 4-post rops.

I'll leave the cab details and other options to somebody else.

And have a cup holder /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif.

Why a 5-cylinder requirement? As long as the engine runs smoothly, puts out the power, has a good torque and would last for 1M+ hours (this is the ideal tractor!), I wouldn't care if it had 1 or 50.

No big reason - just that 5-bangers are smoother and cold-start easier than 4 with the same displacement. Six would be fine, too.

Can our ideal tractor have a gasoline engine?
Hate the sound of a diesel.

Yea the 5 cyl is a smooth running and easy starting engine thats what I have now.

As for the cab heat and a/c of course great visibility all around. A very good stereo for those long days with a weather channel. Great lights to make night like day. A g.p.s. so you will never get lost in the woods or cross property lines. Not only windshield wipers but washers too to get the dust off. A heated and cooled cup holder that swivels. A good tool storage box. Total hydraulic T & T for the three point.

By the time this thread is done the cost of this tractor will be in the $75,000 range. Thats the bad thing about the ideal tractor by the time its ideal most people cant afford it.

How about adding a cab controled inflator/deflator for the tires. Kinda like the Unimogs have. Also 3 point hitch in front and back.

Guess I got as close to that as I could afford in a Kubota. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

I can see an articulated loader, but I sure don't see any use that I would have for an articulated tractor. I would like the 4 link loader but the front tires are already 24 inch and sure wouldn't want them any larger - they are just right. The M6800 4 cylinder can't be as smooth as a M5700 5 cyliner, but is a very smooth and torquey engine. 72 inch would be a little narrow, but the weight is about right. It sure didn't cost $75K. Guess the engineers compromised just right for my uses.

I have never driven anything with 4 wheel hydro drive, but seems like a very expensive way to do it. Guess that would just stand in place and spin around - super-duper steer? Unfortunately most ground engaging equipment doesn't want to turn very fast without tearing something up. Skid steers do this one right, though.

Gordon- speaking of the ideal tractor, whats up with your's???? Is it home yet?? Get the dent fixed?? How do you like the HST?? Did I miss it commimg home? Been gone to much work!!! My 4-1 got here to day, got it on at about 10 PM to dark to try looks cool though!/w3tcompact/icons/cool.gif Hope to get to use it this weekend and try the bucket out. I will also let you know how the tires work, they havn't seated up right so I have been running a round with 50 PSI in them and thats not a fair test. This $75000.00 tractor of yours would have to have a 6-1 bucket for sure and it would have to be able to dump to both sides also.

No I still don't have it yet!!! You guys would be the first to know thats for sure. But the body work is almost done went and saw it yesterday. This is lower slower Delaware and if you try to rush them seems like they just move slower. Something I tolerate but can't stand. Just as well I've put out quite a few hours on the old L3750 and its running well. Had to change the oil yesterday in it was hoping to have the new tractor by now so I wouldn't have to but the way it looks I'm glad I did, because I'll have put a bunch more hours on her before the new one gets here at the rate they are moving.

The good thing is I know it will be worth the wait!!! I will miss the cab but I sure won't miss the shifting.
