In my neck of the woods, there is zero investigation of property crimes. So everyone else is building a gate. Doesn't matter if you have vid footage or not, to local law enforcement. Show the vid, and even if, on your own, you found the person, you find out that the person has left the jurisdiction
.
All our cameras are useless.

A simple gate, up a one way, private road solves this. Reluctantly, I've come to the conclusion that a community funded and maintained gate is needed off the public road. Neighbors have not come around yet to this.
They didn't want to live, as I didn't want to live, in a gated community. Everything is recorded.

Our road is still open, and around once a year, a Tweeter will come up the road to probe a good mark to rob. I don't think the Tweeks know, or care, how dangerous that is.

Do you want to live in a gated community? I really didn't want to: Now, I do want that wall.

I don't want to, and hope that it never happens. Yet given the things I see in the news the day may come when it's the only way to be safe. Hopefully that won't be in my lifetime.

By your saying "my neck of the woods", do you mean this is a county-sized problem? A multi-county-sized problem? A state-sized problem? Several years ago, the local deputy sheriff stopped by my house after I called and told him some irresponsible shooter had left a .223 FMJ bullet in the side of my new garage. It concerns me that your local LEOs care nothing about property crimes.

I do have 3 neighbors down my road that have easement to travel across my property on said road. However I still own the land and can put up whatever fence/gate I want. I just need to give them a way to get in.

You might not have that, but can you wall, fence, or gate off your property from that shared road?

I live on a private lane 3/4 mile long with 12 homes on big lots. I’m in the back on a small cul de sac.
I have a few “this land is you land, this land is my land” types on the lane (they haven’t been robbed yet), but most want trespassers kept off the lane. We had a community meeting during the summer riots last year and I was surprised to see how many wanted to install security gates at the end of the lane with keypad/call box access.
It was quickly shot down when a few residents wondered how UPS Fed Ex would be able to deliver packages

There's no requirement to record everyone coming in and out of your proposed community gate. But maintaining and giving access to that gate could be a real headache though. There's also the consideration of emergency services folks being able to get past the gate. Electric gate controllers can come with fire keys that the fire dept can use to open the gate but I don't know if ambulance or police have those keys.

If your property is situated in a way that makes a gate from the private road to your driveway useful, I'd do that. Just keeping thieves from being able to drive up to the house or other buildings will make most of them go elsewhere. Having to carry the loot makes it less appealing.

I don't consider a 'gaited community, rural. No gates out here and everyone is armed.
