Hello all,

This is my first post at TBN. I joined a week or so ago as I'm just beginning my search for a small tractor. I've been doing some research and a New Holland TC55 looks like a tractor that would do everything want and more.

My question is, what is the difference betwen TC55 and TC55DA? Does that indicate that it has draft control?

Thanks in advance for the answer and please bare with my novice questions over the next few months.

This is a common question for all the NH tractors that have a DA and 'non-DA' models. Unfortunately, the added features of the DA versions are different for each model/class. The DA designation does not represent a single feature but a combination of features.

Initially, there were basic models (no letter suffix), 'D' models, and then 'DA' models. The 'D' stood for Deluxe, the 'DA' stood for Deluxe Advanced. The D models included a combination of creature and practical options, e.g., swivel seat, extensible lower 3ph arms, etc. IMO, they were worth it which is why I have a TC25D. :)

I am sure owners of TC55DAs will chime in with the specifics.

The other question I have is whether or not the TC55 (or any compact tractor for that matter) operate attachments made for skid loaders or is that a no-no?

Yes! Definitely yes! The only thing is that most compacts and the TC55 will not have anywhere near the hydraulic flow of a skid steer. The TC55 has nearly 12 gpm, but smaller compacts typically have 9 down to 5 gpm. A skid steer normally has 15 to 25 gpm depending on size and can operate hydraulic implements like rotary cutters and brush mulchers with heavy hydraulic requirements. The most you should expect from a compact is the ability to operate a hydraulic auger and post driver. Of course, any SS attachment that is not hydraulically powered will be fine.

"D" and "A" mean different things and can appear either together or independently of each other.

"D" models have deluxe features that non-"D" models do not have. These features vary by model. The presence or absence of a "D" designation does nothing to date the tractor.

The "A" designation denotes a more recent production machine than a tractor with the same prefix (TC) and numerical designation without the "A". The "A" designation does little to define the features found on a tractor.

I didn't know they made a plain TC 55. In my opinion it is always better to get the better optioned model. You get a deal on multiple options for a lower combined price and when it comes to sale time a bare bones model just doersn't have the pizzazzzzzzzz.

As it pertains to Class I,II, and III tractors, the "D" also designates hydrostatic transmission. So if one desires or needs a gear drive tractor, a "D" model may not be considered 'highly optioned'.

Wonder how they(TC Series) would do with an auxillary PTO pump?

I've used Bobcats with Hi-Flow on a breaker(jack hammer) and trencher. WOW!

I can't imagine hanging a trancer off the front of the TC40D, but it would be nice to rent a breaker once and a while.

As you know... that can be mighty hard on the joints and bones! (Fellow can find some old skid-steers with quite a bit of lee-way in the loader..)
