United States Navy Chiefs... I have been a Chief for almost 27 years now. Made Chief on 16 Sept 87 at NAS Cubi Point, Republic of the Philippines (PI) and life has never been the same. Ask the Chief is a house hold term. If not for Chiefs, a Navy ship could not get under way, a Navy airplane could not fly... guess who signs the safe for flight? A Chief... Guess who senior Naval Officers ask for help... the Chief. Who makes or breaks a senior Naval Officers career, the Chief. Who makes or breaks a young sailors career... the Chief. Most retired Chiefs are expected to live only 7 years after retirement... I'm going on 16 years now since retirement... probably have made more money in retirement pay than I ever made on active duty. Once a Chief, always a chief. Chief until I die.
