For such a simple implement (not that I would have designed it), it is amazing the results it provides. For what these things cost ($600 5') vs the work they do is tough to beat. Pound for pound one of the better buys IMO. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hi there

If you had access to a Bobcat skid loader would you have need for a box blade? Never used a box blade. Does it do anything special?

Cheers

I think a box blade would still be a great option. A skid steer is often too rough on the terrain just in its method of turning.

A box blade is a very versatile implement. Rippers/scarifiers allow ground to be ripped apart and dirt collected to move to another location, rippers can be used without dragging the dirt, pusing backward, using the rear outside blade can easily fill depressions and push large piles of material.

I've used a skid steer, and the wheels often leave a lot of damage that doesn't happen with a tractor and box blade.

KiotiJohn is correct about the potential damage skid-steers can do. Hense the name, SKID-steer. Skid-steers are a versitle machine but the way they turn can be a drawback although on a dirt road that is almost a non-issue. Most anything with a loader can acomplish what a BB can do but with several additional passes. In my case, a single pass on a dense grade bluestone road took care of all of the potholes...........some as deep as 10". Quite impressive

My neighbor who was building a new home 2 yrs ago used a 5' box blade and a Ford 8N tractor to do all of his backfilling around his basement and dig out a 300' driveway. With his low HP tractor he was able to break loose and move many tons of dirt. This big project was the first time that he'd ever used one and now he swears that a box blade is one of the best implements ever.
I think that some times they can be difficult to adjust properly or control but they are useful and do have their place.

$600, I guess I got more pound for the pound. Couldn't believe the local Coop had this copy for $340 out the door and loaded in my trailer. 5' Texas Red.

If I could only afford one implement it would be the box blade.

that would make a great new thread.........if you could only afford one implement, what would it be? As simple as they are , they are all not created equal. This dealer had light duty to heavy duty..........I went with the heavy duty mostly because of weight

There have been several similar threads such as what implement and in what order etc. Do a search on implements and you'll find some of them.
