Mahindra 26xlHST, JD 870
My 96 JD 870 just turned it's 500th hour. (Bought used with 60 hours). I have performed all the listed maintenance from the manual up to this point. I called a couple of local JD service shops about the 500 hr service. Both recommended some things outside of what JD calls for, ie; clean injectors.

What would folks recommend for this milestone service (for me)? The tractor runs great, always has....

If the service engineers have checked your tractor then go for cleaning injectors.
If all other things are fine and they have not seen your tractor then don't go for it.

That's not very many hours! You should not have to be concerned with injector problems with so few hours - unless - you've have had fuel contamination issues in the past that resulted in difficulty starting and engine running.

My JD 970 did not experience any problems with either the injector pump or the injectors during the 4+ years that I owned it.

I performed all the maintainance (per the owner's manual) and the tractor ran like a Swiss watch!

Like the old adage - if it ain't broke - don't fix it! IMO - the dealership is looking for a couple hours of easy shop time to bill you for!

^ What he said.
You don't need to clean injectors unless you have a problem. I have owned many diesel engines, both trucks and tractors, for nearly 30 years now. Currently have two diesel trucks and three diesel tractors. I've NEVER had any injectors cleaned.

I would ask WHY it should be done. Then I would ask HOW they do it. I.E. do they have a machine that they hookup to clean them (machine might not be paying for itself, so they are pushing it) or do they remove, test, disassemble and clean?

Unless they could give me a GOOD reason I would pass on cleaning since you have had zero problems.
