Just wanted to tell you I have been reading your posts for awhile now and learning what I could. I have decided a New Holland TC40 DA was the right tractor for us. The good news is it was just delivered. We had the quick attach put on and included the pallet forks. We are now contemplating a tiller for doing food plots, any suggestions???

I just bought a double bottom plow to use with my TC 40A. I am planning on adding a small food plot in the spring. I am considering a tiller but I am worried about the number of rocks in the soil. I'm going to use the double plow and then decide to spend the money on the tiller. If I have too many rocks, I may use an old disc until I find all of the rocks. If you don't have to worry about rocks then I believe a tiller would be the way to go.

Welcome to Tractorbynet, Baron. You've gotten yourself a fine tractor. As for tillers, I would recommend one wide enough to run with it centered and covering both rear wheel tracks. A distant second choice would be one that can be offset to cover the track on one side. Some people may debate the merits of gear vs. chain drive, slip clutch vs. shear bolt, forward rotating vs. counterrotating, and one brand vs. another. But to the best of my knowledge, I can't recall anyone posting any messages complaining about the brand he/she bought. They all seem to do a good job, and are generally pretty tough, long lasting implements. My own tiller was a Bush Hog, chain drive, and was used a great deal for a lot of heavy duty work for 7 years with no problems. I was very happy with it, and I have a cousin who still has a Bush Hog for his TC29D New Holland. However, if I were buying today, I'd likely shop around and might buy one of the cheaper brands.

Congratulations on your tractor purchase, Baron. You will sure get a lot of use out of it and the quick attach loader is the only way to go. You didn't say where you are located, but if you have a Tractor Suppy nearby, I'd recommend you look at their KingKutter model tillers. I bought a 72" one this last year and it fits my TC45D perfectly. They sell for about $1500. Here is a picture.
