Just want to say thanks to all the guys who post the safety reminders/information. I have had my Kubota for 2 and 1/2 years and have had no accidents or close calls. Prior to purchasing my tractor I had no experience on any tractors and, quite frankly, was somewhat intimidated. But, thanks to your posts regarding safety and cautious operation, and with experience (150 hours) I now feel more comfortable and confident. While operating my tractor, I often think about the advice given by you, so I know your are a greatly responsible for the 2 1/2 years of safe operation. Thanks guys

I second that!

This forum is priceless for new guys like I was last summer.

Well, I'm still new...but starting to dry behind the ears now.../w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Ches,

Hope you are knocking on wood when you say that. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif
I agree, a person can learn a lot from others if you take the time to listen. It's nice that there are people that will take the time to try to help others.

On driveshaft safety, here is one for the books.
My wife was baling with a 245DT kubota pulling a mod 46 int baler. I was watching the knotters and was getting frustrated that she wouldn't keep the rpms up for the baler to work properly.
I stepped up on the drawbar and reached over to set the throttle. I felt my pantleg catch on a little lock ntu on the driveshaft. Mind you that I had an old pair of pants on that had the cuffs cut off, which is standard procedure for loggers, with suspenders. As soon as I felt the tug I grabbed the fenders and locked myself straight and solid. My suspenders let go about my knees and landed 25ft in front of the tractor about the same time my pants stopped the tractor. There I stood, naked from the waist down with my wife running around the hayfield with her hands over her eyes yelling are you ok!!!!. It just rubbed a little skin off inside of my knee, lucky not to have lost at least one leg. moral to the story I guess is keep your kool around machinery and stay more that your body length from open moning parts. And, by the way, I got one heck of a sunburn that day.

Man, that was a close one. /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
Have you acquired a guard for the drive shaft yet?

Actually the guards were in place. One of those square headed lock screws was sticking out just enough to grab on. The drive shaft is a two piece with a u-joint right over the drawbar, that's what got hold of me.

Wow!

I'd take that ladder ride you mentioned elsewhere ten times over that experience!

Can't remember which thread that was.../w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

(that was your ladder story wasn't it???)
