EX3200
Back in the summer I got a new Yanmar EX3200. Until a couple days ago, I had only put about 10 hours on her just to learn the ropes. Then the storm came. And came. And came. They were calling for 4-8" when it started. We ended up with 28" more or less. Less being 28 more being 42" drifting. I want to thank you all for the buying advice you gave me back in the summer (you know who you are) and all the plowing tricks I learned reading about a hundred threads here on TBN (I don't think you know who you are).
I had never been on a tractor in my life. Thats 54 years. So i knew nothing. Had been plowing for the last 10 years with a 4 wheeler.
The tips I learned have saved me countless hours of trial and error. 4 hours after the snow stopped, I could have made it to the road in an an emergency...even though the road wasn't plowed. :)
I learned about floating the loader, angling the bucket, RPM, herringbone, reversing the rear blade so as not to tear up all the gravel, and about 50 other things that helped me clear out so that my wife and I, my mother, and my sister (all in separate houses) would be at least minimally accessible in case of emergency.
I thank you all for your advice from countless years of experience.
After I got a lane open, the real FUN began. Still have to open open up by mom's shed and my workshop....OK...maybe the trail up to the chicken coop too. And whatever else I can dream up.
Now, when's the next storm due to arrive?
THANK YOU TBN!

It's all about having the right tools for the job and access to the knowledge on how to use them properly. I've been around tractors all my life and not a week goes by that I don't learn something from the collective brains here!

It's a wonderful feeling, attempting something new, doing it reasonably well despite ones lack of experience, but having the knowledge base of a site like this to guide you.

I also have grown up on tractors, but still sift through the info here, and find new ways and great ideas often. In return I try to share my experience with others, in hopes it can be of use to anyone.

I agree, thank you TBN!

I was not one of those raised around tractors, and in this my rookie season winter we had a deeper snow early and several smaller ones to learn. Fortunately we haven't had the 20+ inch snows others did . . But we get lots of drifting which makes a 12 inch snow into a 25 incher for here . Just yesteday a "so called" 1.5 inch snow in the city was 8 inches for our place . It was 2 hours clearing and I noted the different changes the last 4 weeks have felt . . . Going from my 1st snow to this 6th one. Each time testing and learning better patterns, approaches, or efforts to make it easier or better on all our sloped concrete driveways and sidewalks.

TBN continues to help me learn or at least consider what the next effort might be or what I might consider as another new idea. The fear going down the steep driveway slope the first time not knowing if my scut would start sliding in the snow and ice . . is replaced with a confidence I don't need chains and I won't need to be towed/pulled back up the driveway lol.

A forum like TBN for me is not about having agreement of opinion with everyone . . its not a popularity contest or "click" like in high school. . but much more about learning and evaluating many opinions and many sets of knowledge and sharing a little of my own. TBN also continues to demonstrate to me how diverse and interesting are its members in such a wide area of topics.

Yep. You all are a wealth of knowledge and I appreciate it all more than you know. I am always ready to learn and am never too proud to admit I dont know something... a quality I am proud of. Haha. In my opinion, there is nothing sadder than someone pretending to be an "expert" when he/she is obviously not. It doesn't matter how educated or experienced you are (I am both albeit it vastly different scenarios)...there is always something you don't know. In my case, a fair amount regarding safe and proper use of machinery.

I got my first tractor at age 58 or so... and I too have been a regular reader and poster here, always learning things about how to better operate our tractor, take care of it, or add goodies making use safer, more enjoyable or simply more productive. There is lots of experience to gain from on TbN. I am glad I found it.
