All that I can say is thank God for a cab tractor while mowing this afternoon one of the back fields with 88 inch flail I suddenly noticed the sky got black to my horror the tractor was surrounded by bees even though I was inside a cab I was still scared I'm highly allergic not when I was young but somehow as I got older I actually swell up and cannot breathe. Took a quick picture with my cell phone unbelievable, I've never seen honeybees act so aggressive they chased me down the entire field stinging the hydraulic hose lines covers and anything they could stick their stinger into . so for all you new tractor owners who are on the fence of decision look at that picture and imagine your eyes swollen shut take care

Radium, Im glad you are ok. I was stung by a swarm of white tipped hornets one time, it was awful but your photo makes me feel lucky.

killer bees.....

I once unearthed a huge swarm of hornets/wasps in a manure pile. man, i didnt think i could run so fast. I was in the JD, open station. I jumped off and ran. glad that tractor had a kill switch in the seat, cause i didnt wait to shut it off.

Years ago I was raking hay with a side rake and notice a bunch of bumble bees swarming around the rake. I didn't notice anything else until I returned to the barn and saw that the fingers on my right hand were swollen. Apparently I had been stung by a bunch of the young bumble bees and had not even noticed it.

Guy.

Wow, that looks like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie! Yes, the cab is a good thing!

I don't know if killer bees are actually that hight up yet, but you might want to consider getting in touch with local agri department to see. I remember a documentary on the aggressiveness of killer bees vs honey bees. The main difference was in the length of time and distance that killer bees would chase. Is was something like 10x's.

thanks everybody for the kind words, I just want to share this we all seem to get complacent with our jobs forgetting that were sharing this planet with some not so friendly creatures ;-) although you can't really blame the bees they're just doing what bees do take care

PS don't think their killer bees my brother feels they were swarming the Queen when I hit the clump of them I've seen this happen before but they usually form a ball in the tree around her not on the ground
