Has anyone in Texas taken advantage of the Refund of Gasoline or Diesel Fuel Taxes ? It looks to be available for diesel and gas used in tractors (and atv's). I was actually looking to file for the gas used in my boat but they are less than clear about the exact amount. Essentially the tax (which is a huge chunk of the fuel price) is supposed to be levied against people using Texas highways & state maintained roads. If you buy fuel that is used in a vehicle thats not run on the roads, or is exported, you can request some amount of refund. However, neither Form 06-106 nor the instructions specify an amount per gallon. I will keep looking, just thought someone may have already done this.

Some info here

just wondering what your experience has been, how much you got and how long it took.

Thanks

Carey, I haven't tried any "refund" methods, but my fuel distributor gave me a form that I filled out and sent to the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and they sent me form 06-710 (Rev.6-00/3), which I had to fill out and sign and give a copy to my fuel distributor, so that I don't pay the taxes to start with on the offroad fuel. If you'd like information on this, call 1-800-252-1383.

Bird,
Amazing that out of all the people it would be you responding. Has anyone else called about the tractor? I may talk to you later this week.

Do you know what is the price difference between what you pay and what it would've been with taxes? I'll have to find a fuel distributor that I can do that with when I get a tractor. The closest places to me are just run of the mill gas station/food stores - I can't imagine them being real keen on the signed form bit.

I'm going to call them today on the refund though. Thanks again and good luck with everything. (I'm still thinking about it).

Carey, I think it was 8 inquiries I've gotten about the tractor, and one person who said he'll be "beating the bushes" for financing today, so who knows. I mowed the yard with it yesterday, and now this morning I'm getting some of that 20% chance of rain that was forecast./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I don't recall the price difference, but it's considerable. And I also don't know whether the "normal" retail stores would be willing to do that or not; I buy my diesel (and Varsol for my parts washer) from a wholesale distributor who also delivers the larger quantities to farmers in the area. I have my 55 gallon barrel on a small pallet and just set the whole thing in the back of the pickup with the forks on the FEL and go to their place in town to get my fuel.
