M-F 231S. The temperature gauge is junk (needle is off the movement). New gauge is on order. I would like to confirm the signal from the engine temperature sending unit (the temperature sensor) but, I do not know the magnitude of the electrical signal. I suspect it is voltage meaning the temperature gauge is nothing more than a voltmeter scaled in temperature. Actually, the face of the gauge is scaled in green and red zones providing the visual clue the engine is either OK or overheating.

Can anyone confirm that the signal is voltage?

Anybody know the range of the signal?

I can fix about anything but, the documentation for these tractors leaves room for some conjecture.

Thanks in advance.

G'day if it is a single wire sensor then it will be a variable resistor at the sensor with either a 12v or 9v signal into the gauge unit a dual wire sensor is usually the same as in a temperature variable resistor but usually with 12v on one wire into the sensor and a varied voltage out back to the gauge
