Hello all,

I picked up a 2009 gc2400 a few days ago and noticed the temp gauge is not working. I've unplugged/replugged at the dash as well as at the sensor on the left side of the engine block. I think the gauge itself is working as it moves up a little bit after starting but it never registers anything beyond the lowest temp. Now I know it's very cold here now but I'm assuming it should still read that it's warming up at least a little bit.. Wondering if any of you have had this problem and know whether or not it's the sensor in the block or the actual gauge. I fell this is an important indicator to have working. The tractor has 70 hours on it.

Thank you!

Sorry, I don't know of anyone else here with a temp. gauge failure.

But, I can tell you mine didn't come with one, and it works just fine without it.

Just to clarify, when i turn the key to the "on" position it rises slightly, even dead cold but never rises above said position after running for hours on end.

Sounds like the sensor that screws into the block is going bad. It sends a variable voltage/resistance back to gauge. the dash gauge probably requires 12v and pickup resistance from the sensor which makes the needle move. My guess would be the sensor. There may be a way to verify the sensor with a volt/ohm meter. The sensor probably provides a varied ground to the gauge. you could pull the gauge and partially put it in boiling water and measure resistance to see if it changes. Water temp and Oil presure are two items I can't do without. If a major problem arises by the time you discover it. it would have already caused some damage. -kid

Thank you for your responses - I will play around with this. Am I correct in assuming the location of this is on the left side of the tractor paralell with the oil filter (on the right side of the filter) I it could be oil pressure actually... I would think the temp sender would be higher come to think of it.... I'll poke around tonight.

After further investigating I noticed the wire was loose where the connecter attaches to the "plug" on the sender. Squished it a bit with some pliers and I'm back in business, thank you very much for your help!

Glad it was that easy.

Congratulations, if you weren't already, you are now officially a tractor mechanic.

dont be surprised if it still takes a while to warm up, and when it does it will seldom rise above about about 1/4 on the gauge, even working hard in the heat of the summer.

Thank you all for your support. This is a great forum and I'm very appreciative. This was one of the easiest fixes I've experienced on a diesel since my TDI did not start and it was the exact same issue with the fuel shut-off solenoid (only it needed power to open and stay running and was not getting it due to a loose wire). I did notice that it does indeed take a while to warm up. Ran it for 20+ minutes at 1500rpm and barely made it past 1/4 on the temp gauge of course it is 15 degrees out and that does not help.

Woo-hoo! Another GC/TDI owner! Love those "diseasels"!:cool2:

Glad you were able to fix it, and welcome to TBN! irvingj
