Ferguson TEA-20, Troy Bilt Horse
My question for all of the Ferguson Gurus out there is geared toward finalizing what type of tractor I have. Without removing the head I would like to find out if my TEA-20 is an 85mm or 80mm model. My conflict is with the S/N on the ID plate and the S/N on the engine. The Plate reads TE A 287838, where the engine reads SC1884E. Now my research has brought me to the conclusion that the engine S/N is an 80mm, but the tractors ID plate reads 85mm. This clarification is helpful when buying parts, since some items are different between engines. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated.

I dont have a spec list relating to engine serial #'s but a 1952 TEA "should"
have the 85mm engine as the change over was at tractor serial # 172598

What you're calling an engine serial number sounds like a casting number. Is there a data plate on the engine (it will be riveted to the block)? If so it may have the engine serial number on it along with some info on the engine type. Otherwise you'll have to go by the tractor serial number. Yesterday's Tractors website has a much larger forum for the Fergusons, so you might try looking there.

Jerry and JJ,
Thanks for your input. I went over to Yesterday Tractors and was able to post there. I hope that I can get this info squared away. Jerry, the S/N is located on the side of the motor just above the starter near the coil. I am going to check on the casting numbers which is located behind the generator. Hopefully that wil put this issue to bed. Thanks again for your help.

G'day Neil the only parts difference between the 80 and 85 mm engine is the pistons and liners infact if you are doing a rebuild you can get a bit extra power and upgrade to the bigger engine with just pistons/liners, i am sure on this but if i am wrong someone will tell me:D. As for the rest of the engine parts unless you have a real early one with different water pump then all the other tractor parts are the same. You do not need the engine size to order any other parts
