New Holland TC55DA EHSS
I've posted on here before about glow plug issues but now I have a new problem. I have a 2006 TC55DA/EHSS that was bought used but in like new condition back in 2008. It's been a really good little tractor but it's beginning to act like it wants to be traded off on a bigger 75 HP model

(1) I can start the tractor and use it for an hour or so and usually it will start right back when needed but it has begun to not turn over when attempting to start it. The dash lights will come on, the headlights will go out when key is turned to start like always but then nothing. I can allow it to sit for a few hours or overnight and so far it has started right back like nothing was ever wrong.

(2) I'm still having glow plug problems. I can turn the ignition key and the light will come on for the normal length of time and then go out but evidently the glow plugs aren't getting the required 12 volts. I must confess that I have not spent much time trying to sort this issue out as I only need them with a cold start anyway and a quick 1 second shot of ether fires her up every time.

(3) And I have a parking brake switch issue also. I have even bypassed the parking brake switch and the engine will die if the seat switch is opened. I understand we aren't supposed to get off of a running tractor but we all know that we do it on occasion. I always place my forward and reverse shuttle lever in neutral and I put my shifter lever in neutral as well. I have always been able to set and lock my brake and then be able to dismount the tractor but no longer... even with the switch jumpered/bypassed. I assume this is all tied in to one of the "switches" under the dash. I've had to replace the safety switch once at $500 and hope I don't have to do this again. My tractor stays under roof when not being used so it's not out in the weather

(4) I've been looking for a decently priced service manual for this tractor but seem to be having a hard time with the EHSS model. Anyone have a recommendation as to where to get a decent price on either a digital copy or a paper manual. I don't call $175-$200 a good price for a paper copy but I don't want to "save" money on a $50 digital copy and it turn out to be basically useless

I consider myself mechanically solid but the electrical "logic" has me stumped. I really like the old school tractors that left much of the operators safety up to the intelligence of the operator. I hate to think of how much worse it would be if I were to get a newer model since they now have warning labels on the batteries telling the owner not to drink the contents...

I'm only addressing your starting problem on this one. I don't know a thing about your situation so I'll get very basic. Remove the battery cables. Clean connectors and battery terminals. Reinstall cables and tighten securely. If you can move them around they're not tight. Follow ground lead to frame. Clean and tighten. Charge the battery. If you're still having trouble have the battery load tested. By the way, the proper glow plug voltage is usually about 10.5 volts.

Talk to your local NH dealer, maybe they will give you a copy of the electrical schematics.

Roadworthy is giving you great advice. The battery ground cable also seems to be a weak point. Replacing my ground cable after thoroughly cleaning the frame ground solved a lot of issues I was seeing.

Buy some electrical contact cleaner and start by cleaning each set of wiring harness contacts.

The fwd/rev switch might be the source of some of your issues. It was on my TC55DA.

I found my machine seemed to accumulate water in odd places even though I stored my machine in a heated barn. Ground issues can present with unexpected machine behaviours.

Good luck. Having patience and being methodical will help you.

With regards to contact cleaner, contact cleaner degreaser does not clean corrosion. It cleans organics off of surfaces. Organics are rarely the problem so this type of cleaner does nothing. You need a cleaner that really is designed for corrosion byproducts.

I have cleaned all of the connections, applied dielectric grease and reassembled. This has been up until lately a very sporadic occurance but lately it is getting more frequent. Thanks for the reply

I'll stop by the shop and see if they'll give me a copy of the electrical schematic. Thanks for the reply
