New holland TC40da
My Tc40da sputters like lack of fuel and shut off. I replaced the operators safety module and pto switch, and bought a new start safety switch because I was having to wiggle the shifter to get it to get it to turn over. Now the engine turns over but won't crank!!!! And then other times it won't do anything but click until I wiggle the levers around then it spins but won't crank. It only has 456 hours on it so I'm pretty much lost at this point. I did change the fuel filter after it shut off on me the first time and as the bowl got lose I could hear air escaping!!

With the bowl off and the fuel in the on position shouldn't there be fuel free flowing or is it controlled at the key switch. I guess what I'm asking is which position or does it matter which of the two on positions does the fuel cut off need to be in. I'm a new new holland owner and not used to all the electrical aspects of these tractors but any help would be appreciated. You can email me directly at csmoak25@yahoo.com or even text me 912-286-2931
Thanks

Buddy

Welcome to TBN. I don't have a quick answer, but using the search feature (just entering TC40 as the key word and selecting the New Holland Owning/Operating from the Search in Forum list), I found the following -
http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...05-tc40-will-turnover-but.html?highlight=tc40

I would suggest using the search function to look the many messages. If you don't see anything that answers your questions, post again in the New Holland forum. There are some real experts there who can help you get going again.

Thanks for the advice but searching was the first thing I did, this seems to be a common problem with these tractors. I pulled all the fuses at the base of the steering column there all good. I just replaced the pto switch, start neutral switch and the operator safety module, it's getting 12 volts to the fuel solenoid and it has 12 ohms of resistance so i assume it's not burnt up. The tractor won't even turn over now I did find some wires lose on the seat switch so I bought new connectors and fixed it for a right fit but still nothing!!! Turn the key all I hear is the fuel solenoid click in. Turn the key on, the glow plug light comes on as it should then goes out the pto light is off but no power to the starter. I've tapped on the starter but get nothing

I'm at a loss right now not sure what to do

Disconnect the spade connector in the fuel solenoid and unscrew (remove) the solenoid. There's a good pic of it on the link that Barry provided. If it starts, the solenoid is bad. You will have to reinstall the solenoid to get it to shut off.

Have you checked/cleaned/tightened ALL four battery cable connection? Pay special attention to negative cable connections. I couldn't find a lift pump in parts schematics so I think fuel from tank should be free flowing. Have you checked to be sure fuel tank is venting?

I can't even get it to turn over. I checked the ohms as referenced in another post to do on the fuel solenoid and it has 12 ohms. The tractor did start briefly yesterday morning then died like lack of fuel but then wouldn't even turn over like a a safety switch was preventing the starter from powering up

If I remove the fuel solenoid will it allow power to the starter?! Like the previous post stated because like I said It won't even turn over as of right now. I checked the battery and it has 12 volts across it. I can't afford a service call or trip to the shop so I will keep trying until I figure it out

Yes, you can remove the solenoid to bypass and the starter will still be powered. Are you sure you didn't kill the battery as well? We went from 80 last week to an overnight freeze and it killed my battery. O'Reilly's checked it under load and it showed ok. I checked it under a cranking load and showed 4 volts.

I removed solenoid still no engine turn over. Checked and replaced battery no issue with that.
Relay under dash is clicking when turning key but that's it. Checked seat switch again and when compressed it's sending 12 volts to fuel solenoid. Not sure what to do other than call dealer. I bought the tractor used with 400 hours on it for $12,000 he used it to mow 5 acres of grass with and it looks to be garage kept so I don't think it's much other than a electrical issue just don't know wh鑽e else to look. When I do get it fixed I will post what the problem was so maybe it will save somebody some money

If you repost in the New Holland Owning/Operating section, describing the problem and what you've done so far, you may get the attention of member Jinman. He's your best bet by far when it comes to this line of tractors. He doesn't look a this forum section much. I'd give that a try before heading for the dealer. He's gotten me out of quite a few jams with my TC35D over the years.

The only two other things I know to check are the large main fuse above the starter and the #2 fuse (I think its second from the left) behind the gauges.
