TC40D Console

I have a 2001 TC40D of which I am at least the third owner and have been attempting to remove the console halves below the dash. There are 2 bolts that hold the halves together and another 2 on each half that is bolted to the frame. Problem is, the bolts to the frame have nuts that I cannot access without taking the dash/firewall assy off. Am I doing something wrong here? Any help is appreciated.

With the hood open, are there some along the firewall?
Maybe that's what you mean by the 2 on each half that are bolted to the frame. Should be 2 on each half, through the firewall. They should have captive nuts I think. No nuts to lose, just remove those bolts.

Ford850 is correct the bolts that pass through the firewall tread into brass Knurled nut inserts, so there are no nuts for you to get to. The issue is the knurled nut inserts are just pressed into the plastic / fiberglass console halves, so when the bolts freeze up in the inserts & you try to remove them with a socket the nut inserts often spin in the plastic / fiberglass console haves. I know because I've had it happen...

Expect one or two of the inserts to rip out of their place in the cowl. BTDT with my '04 TC33DA. The gauges went wild and we took the whole cluster apart. It did not go back together well or working. Most dash indicator lights work, but I had to run a jumper to the fuel solenoid. Factory WSM ruled out safety switches because it starts with the key and none have been bypassed that I can tell.

Anyway, removing the rt side half required propping the back of the HST pedal up for the front to dip low enough and out of the way. Tachometer reads wild and is no longer reliable.
