Most times I apply the brakes I get kind of like a shuttering noise out of it but it does stop. Any thoughts?

My TC 40A's brakes have made a noise since day one. I've noticed that the noise is louder when the tractor is in 2wd and when I am going down hill. The noise on my tractor comes from the rear hubs and I've noticed that the noise from my tracotr is just the brakes trying to stop the tracotr. I have my rear tires filled (another 800+pounds) and I believe the noise is a result of the fluid in the tires continuing to move faster than the wheel after the tire/wheel starts to slow. This erratic motion of the fluid causes the brakes to shutter until the tractor stops. My tractor stops better when I have it engaged in MFWD. This is just my guess. The brakes on my tractor make more noise when I try to stop quickly from a faster speed than from a slower speed.

Gee I must have had a blond moment....put this in the wrong forum.

Anyway my tires are filled also and I believe it did this before they were filled but maybe not as often.

I spoke to my dealer (days after purchase) about the noise since my tractor did not make the noise when I gave it a test drive before signing the paper work. My dealer's lot is level; however, I live in an area that has a lot of hills. This is my second tractor from my dealer and his opinion was that the surface area on the TC 40A's brakes needed to be larger for this tractor with filled tires when used on steep terrain. I have let the issue drop since the brakes seem to work well. I know have 100 hours on my tractor and the noise has not changed since I purchased the tractor.

I have done work for a neighbor who has a level lot below my land. I almost never notice the shuttering when I'm on flat land. I hope this helps. If you discover any mechanical problems, please, let me know.

:D :D I think it's NH's design feature so you know that you're trying to drive with your parking brake engaged.......:D :D

I've heard that some of us have done this once or twice    , even with that big ol Red Parking light illuminated.

My brakes made noise for at least the first 500 hours. Now, at near 2000 hours, I rarely hear it. The brakes work fine. They are wet brakes and they just seem to grab easily. I don't know if other tractors do this, but it is common to the Boomers. I would expect a gear tractor like yours will have more brake use and they will quiet down much quicker than they did on my tractor since it's an HST with rare brake usage.

The shuddering is due to the anti-lock brake feature working as designed. Just kidding, but it reminded me of the comments after anti-lock brakes first came out for autos. Remember when we were taught to "pump the brakes"?

I was just logging on to ask about this. I only have about 40 hours on a 45a and now when I apply the breaks, even slowly, I hear noise from the back. It sort of sound like wet breaks on an old 60 era truck with wornout shoes. Is this what you all hear?

That's a fairly accurate comparison. They sure squawk/groan/grind until they get broke in.
