Is the $1700 difference my dealer wants for the TC45 over the 40 worth it. All the specs are the same except the 45 has 5 more hp and weighs 200lbs more. I'm going to purchase one or the other tomorrow and want to make the right choice. Thanks in advance....

It all depends on what uses you have for the unit. Its been a year since I bought my TC40D but think that $1700 more for the TC45 seems to be too much. I would have expected the price difference to be closer to $1000. When I purchased mine I considered the TC35D and TC40D and the price diff was only $900.

There have been a few times I wished for the extra few hp in the TC45D. Those uses have been heavy FEL applications. If all you are doing is rotary mowing with 6ft mowers and box blading then the TC40 would be enough. If you are considering using for hay production or other heavy PTO loads then I would go with the extra HP. Have fun!

I personally would buy the TC40D over the TC45D even with a similar price. A little extra displacement/HP on the TC45 is all you get where with the TC40 you get a mid pto to run a midmount mower or a few other valuable pieces of equipment. Other then that they are virtually the same machine. I would forgo the Supersteer even though it is a slick setup, I would worry about the abuse factor I would give it. Great looking tractors, have never tried them. Rat....

Based on the information in your post and the facts that you didn't care to register and tell us some more info about yourself and the usage you intend to put your tractor to, I'll make my best suggestion. Buy the TC21 and belly mower...or maybe the TC18...or on second thought, maybe the 16hp Murray with the grass catcher would be best....WalMart has push mowers and shovels on sale.

PleaseHelp? Really! Give me a break!

But Jim, he already narrowed it down to the TC45 or TC40 from New Holland. I think his intent was to understand what little differences existed between the 2 and since I own an International, and have no hands on experience, I gave my 2 cents. (I know, I overcharged) You just gotta realize, not everyone wants to join a forum and get involved in about 75% idle chit chat. Well maybe this forum doesn't have that much chit chat, but sometimes I wonder. To be honest, I'm getting BX'd out. My ultimate goal is to get a Kubota L48, the ultimate in compacts. You are correct though, get registered, its nice to know if nothing else, where the heck someones from, as long as it ain't from New York City, Rat...

Rat, this "helpless" fellow (I'm assuming guy here) wrote three lines to ask for help in a way that screams, "I'm too busy to tell you enough to give me an intelligent answer, but I want you to spend time doing all the reasearch and then write enough to convince me which tractor I should buy." Rat, I just have no patience with that attitude. If the person can't tell us more, how can he expect to get anything intelligent from us? I decided to give him back a response that was as silly as his question. For example: You responded about the mid-PTO as an option on the TC40. How do you know he needs a mid-PTO? You'd have to be psychic. He sure didn't say anything about what he intended to use the tractor for and he really had already made up his mind about the $1,700 difference. Do you think we will ever hear from him again? I doubt it. Maybe I was too hard on him, but I just got a gut feeling that I didn't like the tone of his post. I hope it didn't offend you that I gave a "flip" answer. I rather enjoyed it./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Aw, come on, JimI. Be nice. If you don't like the question, you don't have to answer at all, and then you don't waste any time. I thought we were all friends, trying to help each other.

I know Jim, "I'm gonna purchase one tommorrow". Hmmm, and here I am taking about 2 years to decide, in the meantime new models keep popping up. New Holland coming out with some great choices, JD with its 4000 series, I tell ya, they make it tough to make up your mind. I have to wonder if "pleasehelp" ever came back to view the responses? Of course, Bird, you are correct. I should have just said that on the basis of the information, $1,700 seems way, way, out of line. On the other hand, not responding is not in the nature of the folks on this board. This is the spot for compact tractor info and if you take time to give details and openly discuss issues, you go away with the correct perspective (not necessarily mine or yours, but rather an informed one).
So in the interest of good fun and information (and a definite desire to not become the "heavy" here), I propose a poll of the folks who are reading this thread. Which tractor do you think PleaseHelp bought on 7/28? ...TC40?... TC45? ...Neither? The winner will receive a loader bucket full of "I told you so." My vote goes to neither.

Thanks for the defense Rat.. I had already spent weeks on the net, at the various dealers within a 50mi radius and talking with people who had recently purchased new compacts in my area. I justed wanted to know if you guys thought the $1700 price jump was worth it. The hp difference seemed slight and most other features were the same. Jinman don't be so bitchy.. I didn't feel my question needed my life history and everything I plan on doing with my new tractor for the next 20 years included. Thanks to the folks who understood my needs and replied. I'll try to include more detailed future post. (I hope it's bragging on the performance of my new tractor and not asking for help with problems). But it is nice to know forums like this exist when trouble does come your way..
Dealer will deliver my new TC45 in approximately 10 days. I figured the extra hp could come in handy and I was able to get it for $1000.
