TC40 2003

I am thinking about buying a new holland TC40 2003 with 550 hrs with a front loader and he will throw in a rear mounted woods bush hog ( used) for $16000
Does that seem like a fair deal.
We have 20 acres that we need a tractor for in New York.. Nothing really big but moving rocks, debris etc..
Please help I don't know what is right

Welcome to TBN. There's really not enough info in your post to give good details on pricing. My gut feeling is that the price is high for that tractor. Since you said it's a TC40, I'm assuming it is a gear tractor and not the HST model (TC40DA). You said it had a loader, but you didn't say if it is the New Holland 16LA loader or another brand of loader like Bush Hog. You told us it had a Woods cutter, but you didn't say what model or what size. Is it a Woods Brush Bull? Is it a 5', 6', or 7' cutter?

My first impression is that this is a gear tractor with 525 hours and maybe used a lot for mowing. You can't be too sure about the PTO clutch and you need to check the battery area well for leaking acid and corrosion. You also need to know if the transmission clutch is in good shape if it's a gear tractor.

All-in-all, I'd say this tractor may be worth $14k to $14.5k tops. It goes down from there in my opinion. The tractor and loader probably sold for about $20k when brand new. Remember, you don't get a warranty with this machine. You are assuming a lot of risk if you don't know the machine's history.

Bought my used TC45DA in Upstate NY last summer - this price for this tractor as @jinman pointed out - too high.
I second @jinman - to the letter.

KJ - I just purchased a 2006 TC40 shuttleshift, 168 hours, curved boom loader, quick attach bucket, R4 tires, grill guard - absolutely like new for $14000. Deals are out there - just be patient. Always ask the guys on ebay for their phone number and give them a call after the listing expires because it did not meet reserve. I have found at that time they are more willing to accept less than what they initially thought it may be worth.
