I've notice that my power steering fluid reservoir cap/dipstick is loose, like REALLY loose. I'm afraid it's going to bounce out and get lost.

I don't remember it being this loose in the past, and it certainly shouldn't be worn out. It's not like I'm removing it every day. Do they shrink with age?

Before I spend $25 ( ) on a new one, I'm curious if this is a common issue. I do see that there was a substitution of a new cap/dipstick at some point. I'm not sure if I have the old or new style.

I don't think it is an issue of not being tight. I have replaced the reservoir/filter and noticed the play in the cap but have not observed any fluid leakage. Leakage would be the first sign of the cap not being tight enough.

This video shows what the cap does with the engine just idling and the tractor not moving:

That cap should have ribs that go down in the neck of the resi. Can you take a very thin O ring and put it above one or both of those ribs?

My O ring assortment kit has saved me many many more dollars than I paid for it only a few years ago.

That sounds like a great idea. My first attempt at this didn't work however, even though I had a pretty thin O-ring. I may keep trying.

What I'd really like to know however is if I have the old or new style dipstick. I see in the parts diagram that a substitution to the dipstick was made at some point. The old version is SBA398430520 and the new version is SBA398430521, but I don't know which I have. I'm wondering if the part substitution was done to correct this loose fitting issue?
