Hello,
I am having the exact same problem as this post: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...d-hydrostatic-transmission-stuck-forward.html

The problem I have is that the threads on the rod that goes down to attach to the transmission are damaged. It looks like the rod pulled out of the other threaded end. I need to know how to replace this rod, but there does not appear to be any good way to get to the other end that is attached to the trans.

Any suggestions?

THanks,
Kevin

The exact same part as referenced in the original post. There is a small threaded rod about 5 inches long that has heim joints on each end. It connects near the pin at #20 on the supplied schematic, and extends down into a small slot in the top of the transmission case. The end down in the trans has pulled free from the heim joint and the threads on the rod are damaged.

Thanks,
Kevin

Your pedal has an adjustment for centering the pedal to the transmission's neutral swashplate angle. In the diagram below, I believe it is the part shown in "Detail A." I think item #29 is an adjustment nut that allows your pedal to be centered. I'm not completely sure, but it's the only adjustment I see and I know there is an adjustment. You'll have to remove the cowling under the steering wheel to get to the parts shown in the illustration.

On part 23 there is the one hiem joint that attaches to the inside of it then a threaded rod then another hiem joint that is bolted in the trans. None of which is pictured in the diagram. It is in the transmission diagram which I can not find a picture for. I can tell you part numbers.

Are the parts if you are replacing everything grand total with shipping 109.47 from Messicks.
I ordered everything just in case because I haven't gotten my tractor back to the shop yet to dig deeper and want to have them any way.

Monroe,
The parts are relatively cheap but the access to the area to repair is a nightmare. I have a really creative & resourceful mechanic (he does roadside big rig repair) that boards a horse in my barn and he was able to help me get this repaired. The guy can fix ANYTHING and even he was more than a little stumped. After cutting down some wrenches and welding up his own "tool" we were able to get the bottom heim joint unbolted. After using a telescope magnet and getting very lucky a couple times fishing out stuff we dropped, we were able to get everything removed.

It looks to be a horrible design. That link does not appear to need to be adjusted at all, so why a threaded rod with heim joints is lost on me. In order to make that this does not happen again, we chose to weld the heims onto the rod and be done with it. That little rod and heims take a lot of stress when moving back and forth with that tractor. The threads pulling out seems inevitable.

This is a serious safety issue as well. The rod pulled loose while I had the tractor powered up doing loader work. Once the rod was loose, the tractor took off like a bullet at near full power straight ahead. Luckily for me there was a huge pile on manure ahead of me. Otherwise I could have driven over my kids or through my barn wall before I figured out what had happened. Scary.....

Good luck with your repair,
Kevin
