TC33D: Help Please -- what\'s this piece of hose?

While brushcutting the other day, I found a short (2-2 1/2 ft long) piece of clear plastic hose on the ground that must have come off my tractor. Now, I'm no mechanic, but here's what it looks like: on one end it has some broken black material (part of something the hose connected to?) and a metal pin clamp (not a regular hose clamp). The other end is clean and smooth, as if it is suposed to be the end of the hose. The hose is clear, with no fluids inside it, no stains, and no smell. The only thing I can find that's like it is a tube coming down form the valve cover. It goes straight down and end a couple of feet above the ground with a piece of black tube. The bottom end of this tube (pointed toward the ground) looks like it might have been torn. Is this the breather tube? If the piece that fell off is suppsed to be connected here, where is it supposed to go -- is there a bracket or something to hold it in place? Can anyone who knows the TC33 tell me what this is supposed to look like underneath the tractor? Thanks! ~bkthrn

You don't say how new your tractor is? Or had it been serviced lately? This tubing could have been left inside your tractor some where or maybe was used for a fluid fill of some kind and just fell out. I Also have a TC33D. I don't recall any clear plastic tubing. I'd hold on to it and ask my dealer about it.

Here's just a guess. Check your battery. On later models the battery has a vent hose that's clear tubing and fits up over a bracket on the top cover of the battery. If that's okay, check your radiator vent from the radiator cap. Those are the only two things I can think of off the top of my head.

This is just a guess, but for some reason I remember on my TC33D a clear hose hanging towards the ground coming from a overfill catch basin around the fuel fill tube. If you over filled with diesel this hose would direct the spill to the ground without splashing allover the engine.

Sounds like the over-fill hose.

Colant recovery tank overflow?

For what it's worth.. the tube/ breather hose running down the side of my engine also looks ragged. I guess the guy at the factory installing these has some dull pocked knife he cuts the tubing with? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

My 29D has an overfill for overfilling diesel fuel. It is a clear one. The one for the coolant and the battery was black and up front. The diesel overflow was in the middle of the tractor.

Thansk to all who responded. And the lucky winner is....

Actually it's the basin that fell apart, which is why the hose fell off. A pretty cheap piece of junk -- costs $11 to replace, NBD. Shouldn't happen on a three-year-old tractor. ~bkthn
