Tc30 or Jd790

Well I seemed to have narrowed the search down to, two tractors. The TC30 or the JD790. Can I post in two areas?

I got a price for the NH for 19,500 with FEL, and backhoe. The JD was 21,000 with the same and choice of tires. Any thoughts on these prices?

The Deere looked a little more heavy-duty and the dealer is right down the road from my home. The FEL steel and bracing is a little more heavy duty. The JD dealer told me the hydraulics are much faster on his machine, than the NH because of pump capacity. I’m not sure what numbers to look at on the specs sheets. However, the TC30 has a much higher 3 -pt lift capacity, almost twice that of the Deere. I'm also unable to find any information of the FEL lifting, and weight capacities. I definitely want the one that can lift the most weight.

Also was wondering about comparing the backhoe digging force and depth between the two. Anyone with any experience with either or both machines that could lend some information would be great. The TC30 at glance seems to be the better deal, with a cheaper price, and more lifting in the 3pt hitch. Am I missing something?

would agree with u, especially after reading inspector507 post. but which one do u actually feel the most comfortable on?

My info for the TC-30 shows a main pump capacity of 6.1 gpm for the hydraulics and 3.5 gpm for the steering. My info for the 790 shows a main pump capacity of 5.6 gpm and 4.3 for the steering.

However, the information for the JD is from my Government Bid Spec Book and the figures are for the 790 with the 91.3 CID engine. To my knowledge that engine is now downsized but I don't have the figures for that smaller engine. The NH has a 91.3 CID engine so it beats the 790 at both HP and main pump hydraulic output. Sorry, I can't tell you anything about the backhoes on either.

I find it hilarious that the green dealer made the statement that his hyds were faster.. I guess we see why.. must be smnaller rams.. thus half lift capacity.. and he thought this was better?

I can always tell when a discussion at a dealer is going south when he starts by immediatly cutitng down the competition..

I have a JD 770 with a 70 Loader. They are basically the same tractor. When the 790 came out it was rated at 30 Gross HP vs the 770's 25 HP.

The loader manual specifies a lift height of 77 inches. I know that's enough to load a 2/3 yard dump truck on a Ford F450 chassis.

I've loaded my 54" bucket (7 cu ft) with sand and it handled it without a problem.

Which tractor feels better and drives better in your opinion. The 790 has been around a long time which speakes for its reliability. The ergonomics (just how comfortable you are on it) may be more important than differences in loader capacity depending on what you intend to do with it.

I just had a house built, and my contractor had a 1994 JD 770 with FEL and backhoe. He's used it since new on construction projects and it's held up fine. He bought the back how used, rebuilt it, used it so much he had to rebuild it again and is still using it.

Have you driven them and used the implements yet?

Out of the box, the Deere is stronger in the Front, the NH in the rear. Read up on both these on TBN and you will see owners tweaking the hydraulics. On the blue to improve loader capacity, and on the green to improve the lift.

The TC30's are probably stepped down because of the Boomer models that were at the same time, Seems their front axles weren't up for what the loader could do.

No one I know of can say why the Deere's 3PH is set so low. The specs I can find do show higher capacity on the pumps for it.

Of course, the Deere has been lowered in Hp, so that is a real plus in the TC30.

Another idea is to check on gear models in the boomer and 4000TENs Sometimes a dealer has one on his lot that he needs to move, and can discount to the point where they are really competitive with the bargain tractors...
