Ok.. lets think this thru. If glowplug control wire is unplugged.. then all is ok ( except no glowplugs ).
If glow plug control wire is plugged in and you hit the starter.. it burns the main fuse i am presuming, as the aux wire from the solenoid that you speak of probably feeds the fuse panel.
That suggests a short. 3 areas could be at fault. 1, the actual wire that runs from the ignition switch to the glow plug timer could be chaffed and shorting to ground. 2, the glowplug timer module could have an internal short, or bad plug, etc. and 3, the glow plug circuit could have a short, either the glow plugs themselves, or the buss wireing connecting them. Now. I'm not familiar with how your tractor feeds power to the glow plugs. If it feeds them off of the main fuse, then any of the 3 could be a possibility. If instead, only the control module is fed, and the acutal glow power is on an outside line.. then that would rule out the plugs and the buss wire... however.. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are fed off the main panel.
Try this for diagnostics. Disconnect the feed wire from all the glow plugs,.. that is.. dissconnec tthe power wire to the paralleled bus... replace fuse and try it. If all is ok.. then you have a shorted glow plug, or the bus is touching something and shorting. Easy way to check is to connect one plug back at a time till you hit the fault again.
Now.. if that didn't help, find the glow plug control module. disconnect the wire from the ignition from it.. but otherwise leave other lines connected. if that helps, then the module, or mounting or associated wires in that area are suspect. If not help, then remove the line from the ignition switch, and leave it hanging at the module and ignition switch, and run a new temp line from glow plug module to ignition switch. if that helps.. then the line in the wire harness was shorting.. if not.. .. hmm.. I'd have to see the circuit to get into it deeper. You already replaced the switch. assuming you did it correctly and didn't short any lugs.. that should be ok.
I'd have a couple boxes of fuses on hand for testing /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
