I want to use a top link with a hydraulic ram on it. My question is has anyone purchased any of the extra hydraulic hookups? What I am looking for is this something that can be added easy and how much are we talking just for the tractor portion.

list price for the first valve is 253.00 installation should take no longer than an hour. This is also very easy for you to do if you should choose to do it. Cost on this valve is 201.00 with freight. You should be able to get your dealer to give you a few dollars since you bought the tractor from him.

murph, generally, the term is hydraulic toplink. Here's a link to a thread, complete with pictures, that covers the entire process of installing 2 rear remotes on a TC29D. Looks like the hardest step is removing the rear tire. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif One other source for the toplink is CCI who sells a hydraulic link, including hoses and freight, for $190.

Since $450 is a nice piece of change I thought I'd ask...What do you want to use the hyd toplink for? I don't see anything in your profile that could benefit from one? I've thought about getting one, but other bills keep getting in the way! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Mike,

I guess it is two fold. I just want one just in case. You never know if you would need one or not. If I put it on I probably will never use it, if I don't put it on then there will be a time when I wished I had it. Murphy's law plays a part in this all??

Anyway what I did see was a local shool system dragging a chain like drag for behind the mowers. It was just made out of chain and it actually dragged behind the mower. Made the grass fluff up pretty nice. So I actually want to make one since my tractor does leave wheel marks. The marks go away after a day or so but this might just get rid of them right away. I want to build this hooking to my 3 pt hitch but I do see a problem with backing up and getting the chains under the tires. So I thought I could extend the system back some and then be able to raise it up while leaving the mower down. But I am thinking it would be just best to set things back far enough so if I do back up and forget the chains they wouldn't get caught. So this hydraulic top link would be nice but not fail safe.

If anyone has any other ideas I am sure open.

Here's a thread that deals with dragging a pasture. Maybe you can get some ideas from that. About 3/4 through, there's a picture of something that looks like a cross between a drag and boom pole.

Having a hydraulic top link does things for you that perhaps you have not thought of. I use mine for mowing quite a bit. When mowing over steep drop offs, without a hydraulic link, you cannot get the rear of mower to drop down. You can lower the 3 pt, but it won't adjust the pitch. I pull the top link in when backing down, once there, I use the valve to drop the mower down. Believe me, its a lot easy to do then explain it. It also allows you to level out the mower when you elevate it. Handy when your not sure what lurks under that tall grass. I will slowly lower the 3 pt as the grass cuts and then check the area for obstacles. If its clear, I'll continue the cut.

The real advantage though comes when you use a boxscraper for adjusting the cutting angle. For me, having a hydraulic top link is an absolute necessity. The tilt cylinder is icing on the cake. Rat

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the link. I think I found something that would work or at least a pattern that I could use and hook some chain links to it. There was a chain harrow there that looks good but I am afraid it would pull a lot of the grass out. Could serve as a de-thacher I guess.

Anyway thanks for the link I think it will help me in the right direction without the Hydraulic top link

That is exactly why I ordered my TC29D with one. You never know.

My NH dealer quoted me $200 for hyd top link. Installed.

I would assume at that price he's talking only about the hydraulic top link cylinder. A Gannon hydraulic cylinder retails for about $300. It will probably be a larger cylinder then you were quoted. For some reason, those top link shafts are pretty easy to bend. The standard rewelded Prince cylinders fall prey to this. Rat
