I was tired of the black soot all over the loader and more importantly tired of breathing the fumes from the exhaust. It seems that the fumes would bounce off the back of the FEL bucket and get sucked up by the engine fan and blown back into my area of breathing. So....did some thinking and loaded her up and went down to the muffler shop, explained my plans and they went to work. Now since it exits directly out the left and under the loader frame, no more cancer fumes and still looks somewhat factory. Here's some pics.

Looks good, couple more angles and another couple feet of pipe and you could have had a side pipe, maybe a chrome heat shield. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I was charged $35.00 for everything. The original pipe coming off the muffler is 1 1/4" and he just took a piece of
1 1/2" and made the bends to get it out where I wanted it. Most auto muffler shops only carry 1 1/2" as the smallest (around here anyways). So they cut off the original pipe down by the alternator and slid the new pipe over the old and welded around the seam. He then welded a small hanger on the loader subframe and shot everything with hi-temp paint. I have parts to the original hanger in the front so if I wanted to change it back to original I could just get a new tailpipe and bolt everthing back in place.

One thing we noted was how sharp the bends were on the original pipe. In one place, it was almost pinched off! I don't know how the tractor even ran, I never noticed any problems. However it seems like it exhausts much better now! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Just wondering if it was a significant improvement in keeping the fumes away from your breathing zone or if you think another routing would work better.

Tex22,

At first I was going to extend it further to the front and then 90 it out to the side between the loader arm and the front tire. I was afraid that when the loader was off the exhaust would not be protected from running into something. So it seemed that the next best place would be to bring it out under the loader subframe where it would be protected regardless of what I was doing. The idea came to me when I was riding in the back of truck at work, as our ladder truck's exhaust exits out the side just behind the cab before the pump panel. I thought I'd like to make the tractor that way!

I once in a while I'll catch a smell of fumes, after all it is a diesel, but nothing near like before! I feel like it made a great improvement. No more headaches!

Followed your lead, but used flexible pipe. Makes a big difference in the way the engine sounds from the drivers seat.
