TC24DA Broke in half behind Bell housing !!!

Man, what a weekend I had! Just got my NH TC24DA Friday. I re-surfaced my 300' driveway. Then Saturday I proceeded to clear the woods behind my house. Mostly 1" to 2" trees. There were a few larger ones I took down with a chain saw.

Anyway, I using my loader to pull up the roots on a stump that was about 3" and my loader kicks up on me an my engine dies. I restart and there's a hideous sound so I shut down. Upon inspection, I find that the transmission housing has cracked in half at the bell housing! I can't believe it...it has only about 10 hours on it!

My tractor has the standard loader and a Bushhog 665 backhoe attached. NH is picking it up today and will cover the repairs, but I'm not impressed. They did get me a TC30 to use until this gets resolved, but this one runs pretty hot...like in the red zone(ok this is another story!).

Anyway, just wondering if others have noticed a weakness in this part of the tractor, I'm really concerned and kinda wish based on this problem that I got a TC30 now! they are definately much strong in this section of the tractor.

I love the design and feel of the TC24da, but its gotta be stronger than this. I hope it is a one time defect.

Considering the low number of hours on the machine, it was probably a defect in the casting. I would assume as much and go along with the repair if it doesn't take too long. I would have been very worried about the effect of the Bushhog backhoe on the NH warranty. Technically they may have an out there. (Not that I think it had anything to do with the failure.)

Wow, sorry to hear about the tractor. I have over 160 hours on my TC24d with 12la and 756c bh. Most of the hours has ben carrying/working with the bh. So far the only issues have been a hydraulic leak or two. One was just a loose clamp, but the latest one almost appears to be the hydraulic cooler. Hope things work out for you.

I would guess that you have a defective casting myself. I can't imagine anything that you're doing would add to this problem.

At least the dealer was kind enough to supply you with a loaner until your tractor has been repaired and that's a A-plus.

The last time the TC24 had an aftermarket FEL (I don't remember what brand) that had a considerably higher rating than the OEM FEL, and NH would NOT honor the warranty. I don't remember the details but the owner was really PO'd because the dealer recommended the FEL and installed it, but wouldn't help on the repair bill. The owner had to foot the $2500 (?) repair bill alone, then sold the unit.

I don't believe that it was the fault of the tractor. The poorly matched FEL along with aggressive operation lead to the failure in that case.

Wow.. dealer recomended and installed it.. then wouldn't help with repair?? i think there would have been a little legal action going on there if that had happened to me..

Sorry to hear about your tractor...I have a TC24DA with 125 hrs on it and have had absolutley no problems. I have overloaded it with rocks and have done a lot of digging with the front end loader lifting the tractor off the ground. Maybe I better back off a bit. I love this tractor and agree with you that it is a nice design and has a nice feel to it. Hope you get your tractor back soon, fixed and ready for work!

After thinking about this for a while, I was wondering any news? Was it a bad casting? Too much loader/BH? I've had both ends up on my tractor using either the loader or the bh doing stump/rock work. When I say stump work, I mean trees greater than 14" not small stuff.

You mentioned a "standard loader". Do you mean the 12La or the 7106? I assume the BH uses a subframe?

Might have been a defect in casting. At any rate New Holland is offering to either fix my tractor of provide me a TC30 in place of it at no extra charge due to the circumstances plus my concerns of my TC24 becoming a problem child after such a tramatic failure. I really like the look and feel of the TC24, but if they're offering a TC30, I guess I'm moving on up!
