I am not sure if you are familiar with FONRA auction 30 guns in 30 days - but I just won Thompson Omega in .50" caliber.

Firearm Details - Thompson/Center

Anybody has this rifle and wants to share experience with me? I was going to skip the blackpowder season but now it looks like I need to buy another license:)

I don't own one, my Uncle down in the Florida panhandle has a TC .50 Omega and some version of Knight. He says they are both fine "one-shooters" and he takes deer with them each year.

Good luck, post pics of your bag.

I haven't shot the Omega, but my wife shoots a CVA Kodiak, which is essentially the identical gun to the TC Omega. It's quite accurate when you find a bullet/charge combination that it likes.

Just remember, if you shoot it today, you'd better clean it before the sun goes down!!! :) Otherwise, you have a rusty stick :(

Muzzleloaders is just about all I use for deer anymore... the deer are so plentiful around here, there's just about no excitement anymore in deer hunting for me...so I liven it up with the ol' smokepoles... adds a bit of challenge to it.

I'm shooting either a TC Hawken when the weather is good that I built from a kit about 15 years ago, or a CVA Optima for when I don't want to take my pretty Hawken out in the current conditions. The Optima is really cheating... but it fits me like a glove, it's extremely accurate and it's easy to clean, and it goes off EVERY time.

My Optima likes 110gr loose Triple 7 Powder under a Sierra 240gr JHP .44 cal bullet in a Hornady green sabot. Becky's Kodiak does pretty good with that load also, it might be a good one to try with your Omega, but work up to it... if I go to 120 grains of powder, it starts blowing the sabots in both guns, so that's right at max. I took a 215lb 11pt Buck at 157 yards last year with that load in my Optima... I kinda misjudged the range a bit, I thought he was just over 100 yards out when I pulled the trigger. Needless to say, I'm impressed. 777 is good stuff, and so is Sierra bullets ;)

I bought my brother one for Christmas two years ago. With a just a little load development, he was shooting 1.5" groups at 100 yards (he is a hunter first, not a gun nut like me, and that accuracy was fine with him). He settled on a load of 90 grains of T7 and a 250 gr. Shockwave sabot. He shot a doe at 90 yards last year with the rifle. We topped it with a Leupold VX-1, 2x-7x.

Well, this was funny opening this thread earlier today. I had been working with Omega TC. I was doing thermal analysis on motherboards. We use thermocouples(TC) from the company Omega :D I was thinking "Cool, someone else is doing thermals!"

I do not know anything about this rifle. But, I have a lot of expierience going back years, with TC Hawkens. They are very well built and accurate. I would guess that this rifle is made to the same high standards I have seen from multiple other TC rifles.

I've been using a TC Omega for 2 years. I can get 2" groups at 100 yards with 100 grains of pirodex and a 295 gr. sabot. It's a dependable gun. I bought it when my old CVA blasted the cap but didn't ignite the powder on two deer in a row.
