Hi everyone, I havent got online as much as I wanted to lately,I have been out plowing snow like a wildman-does everyone have as much snow as we have in Id.
- about 3 ft at my house?I sure am happy with my new L3000, I see the need for some kind of backblade,it would be much faster than scooping everything with the bucket.Hey HARV. does your loader bucket have a couple of strange brackets welded to the top and topside?Do you ,or anyone know what they are for? Id hoped to rig up some kind of hooks there but i am not sure ,I have seen alot of bent buckets, is it strong enough to pull trees with? Does everybody have taxfree offroad fuel or is that just an Idaho thing? I know its also called #2 fuel here. I dont know when to stop with the questions ,so somebodys going to have to smack me when I get to my question limit,I cant stop pondering when Im puttering!

I get my tax free fuel from local Farmers Co-Op. They have a pump for (off road diesel) tax free, and a pump for regular on road (tax added) diesel. You have to fill out some paperwork to qualify for the off road stuff but been so long ago I don't remember particulars. They will also deliver off road diesel to your place in bulk if you qualify??

Sure would like to see a pic of those hook thingies on your bucket. I don't believe I would be pulling trees with them though.

We don't get near as much snow here in mid Tn. as you ID. At least I don't think so. We have had more snow this year than in many previous. I had to scrape my drive once so far. Used my back blade and it was EASY. Sure would hate to think about using the FEL bucket for this though.

Keep the posts/questions coming. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

putty340,
By the sounds your getting plently of practice w/ your FEL before the ground thaws.
3'of snow /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gifmaybe a front plow is what you need instead,so you won't get sore neck plowing so much snow.

If your planning to pull trees etc.. you may want to consider beefing up the bucket w/ exta iron, also reading the capacity of your FEL...just be careful.

Tax free fuel /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif haven't seen or heard of that since mid to later 80's around these parts.

Keep those banks push back and have a pleasant day.

Putty340,

Here is Missouri we also have non-road use diesel as well as gas. Fuel taxes were implemented for the design and repair of our highways, after all that what we pay them for supposedly, can't tell it from the condition of the roads/w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif. The way I understand, anything that is not used for highway use should be free from taxes. I questioned my local co-op about lawnmower gas and he said if it is not used for highway use it should be exempt from the gas tax. I have been using tax free gasoline as well as diesel fuel for some time now. I filled some paper work and sign a card every year for the privilege.----Cliff

Putty -

We're probably talking about the brackets used for holding the connecting bars when you want to take the loader off the tractor.

I also decided to use these for mounting temporary bucket hooks. I say "temporary" 'cuz this is clearly not a very strong way to attach them (did I mention I want to get a welder?), plus I even used crappy Chinese-made hooks (which was discussed in another thread).

The attached picture shows how I used a half-inch carriage bolt, nuts and washers to mount both a grab hook and a slip hook. I've only used it a few times for securing a load in the bucket and once for tipping my tractor over -- I mean attempting to pull a small tree from one side of the bucket (see Stupid Tractor Tricks).

McCallum is right -- this is not the setup you want for any serious lifting. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

Off road fuel is sold in Ohio for farmers, off road industrial equipment, etc. I believe that it currently runs about 30-40 cents per gallen less than at the filling station which is mostly the state road use tax. I have a 55 gal. drum (wouldn't want any bigger for the little amount that I use) & will start using this fuel this year once I get a low cost pumping or elevation system for the tank. I don't know anything about the Kubota bucket, but do need to get some hooks on my Boomer bucket. We had 4-5 inches her in Ohio the past 48 hours & spent most of the early morning plowing snow at our church. I use a 7' blade & my loader & am getting better every time out. I can angle my blade & go right down the 5' wide sidewalks & save mny man hours while having much fun for myself. Bring on the snow! ;-)
