Unlike some posts when I called Tarter I have found them to be friendly and responsive. I specifically asked about hooking to the lower crossbolt and was advised to not do so. The top is reinforced for a reason and there is insufficient space between the two top cross bolts for clearance of the hook. I have quick hitches for the reasons you state and am dissappointed in the need to hook directly to the 3-pt but believe it is the best decision in this instance.
