I am looking to buy a 6' rotary tiller. I stopped by a tractor place and looked at a Tarter brand. I have never heard of them before. If anyone has any experience with this brand I would appreciate some feedback. Good, Bad???

I`ve bought the 5` one 5 years ago, only use it my own garden. its been a good tiller, doubt I`ll ever wear it out.

Tarter makes a lot of implements for Tractor Supply, at least in my area. They're a mid-level manufacturer based on what I've heard about them. Not as good as the better series from manufacturers like Bush Hog, Land Pride, Woods, Rhino, etc., but as good as or better than some others.

Here is my 5' County Line bought from TSC this spring. This one was made by Behlins but looks just like the Tartar picture. TSC must have their own specs for different vendors. Had a leak at the PTO shaft seal, called Behlins direct looking for a new seal and they sent me a complete new gear box. That is some fine customer service.

Curious if you went by Southern Tractor in Summit to price a Deere 673 tiller? I think that would be a good match for your tractor as I can pull mine at the higher speeds of your transmission.
If you have the older 5105 make sure you get a 6 tine per rotor tiller because your lowest gear is 1.9mph. Should work okay if your topsoil is thick enough. The red clay beneath your topsoil would require multiple passes to get to depth.

I run a 6 ft. County Line from Tractor Supply made by Tarter. It's been a great tiller for 5 years tilling 3 gardens a couple times per year. The price was awesome back in 2010 I paid $1,400.

I have a 5' Countyline made by Tarter. One downside to Tarter is that they will only talk to dealers about technical questions or parts. Couldn't even get an answer about what size grease fitting was used (neither could the dealer), had to do trial & error to find a proper one (rather than wait a week or two for a shipped replacement). You will need to order any parts through a dealer or third party.

My Behlins came with a nice illustrated parts list and toll free number to order dirrect. Their customer service was very easy to work with. Since the Tarter and Behlins look identical the parts would probably interchange. Wonder if they both didn't come from China and are just rebranded?

Nick, That's not the experience I had with them on my rotary cutter. I had a grease zerk fall out of the tail wheel, I called them and they sent me a couple no questions asked. I was also having problems breaking shear bolts at start up and they were more than happy to discuss the issue with me. We concluded it didn't have anything to do with the mower. I did some research on tbn and heard found someone with the same issue with a 1529. The problem was the electronic PTO on the Massey was starting too hard. Dealer installed a soft start module that is std on the 1532 but not the 1529, it solved the problem. That was last spring so I guess the policy could have changed since then.

Tarter manufacturing is just up the road from me (50mins away) just east of Bowling Green, KY. Yes, I concur with the others that they do make a good deal of Tractor Supply items. Their gates and tractor implements are a little pricey. But, in my area, they are nearly the popular supplier. We do see some Lowery Manufacturing equipment sometimes in our area too.
