Talk me out of a new truck?

Ok so I've got a 2007 F-250 crew 4x4 lariat 6.0 with 79,000 miles on it, I bought it just over a year ago and still owe $12,000 on it. I have had 0 problems with it but last week a friend put his in the shop with a bad HPOP & FICM $3500 later he got it back and the very next day it broke again, needed all 8 injectors another $2500 worth.
Someone tell me a 6.0 ant that bad.
Note: Friends truck had a programmer on it and he drives a little harder than I do, but he never pulled anything, ever. I recently got a little Ranger to do my daily driving in so the 250 doesn’t move unless it’s pulling about 12,000 lb. My mileage will be 5000-7000 a year at the very most.

Sounds like trading would be an impulse buy, not a necessity. With 79K miles, the thing is barely broken in.

My 2001 F-150 4x4 is just shy of 200K and I would have no hesitation driving it coast to coast. Now, if you were in a Chevy or a Dodge, I'd say get rid of it for sure

Keep it. Biggest issue with 6.0L's are not using them and extending the oil changes beyond 5K. My 06 and my 04 are both trouble free trucks but they are used to work. My 06 pulls upto 25K and 16K is a common load for it.

Work it and drive it and it will serve you well.

There is no perfect setup. GM has its fair share of issues as does the Dodges.

Yea if I read the truck forums I get nervous, then it happens to someone I know and I get real nervous. I do regular oil and filter changes, I also added a coolant filter and a scanguage II to see my temps.

i think once you go to the dealership and check out the prices on new trucks that ought talk you out of it.i bought a new Chevy car a month ago and looked at some new trucks in the show room 40,000+that was enough for me.

Unless you just won the lottery or a very rich uncle just left you a ton of cash....stick with your truck. Should go for years!:thumbsup:

So just stash $6000. in the sock drawer and keep telling yourself Ford didn't take a bailout and the Ecoburst makes it's own gas!

Does the 6 G's fix the problem or can you look for it to happen again?

Yep, I’ve priced them. Base model F-350 XL 6.7 crew 4x4 dually = $50,500 came down to $40,000 over the phone. My truck will be paid for in 1.5 years, that thing would take me 6 years.

Stimw, It was my friends truck that took a $6,000 dump, mine is still running fine. The friend on the other hand traded in his truck "not running" and owing the dealership 3,500 in repairs. I'm sure he got a "real" good deal on the new 1/2 ton he got!

If six years of payments doesn't scare you, nothing I could say will. :laughing: I can't top that.

I traded a 2003 F250 6.0 for the same reasons that concern you. I had plenty of expensive engine warranty work done and wasn't looking forward to footing those kind of bills myself based on the reputation those engines were getting.

It will cost a lot to sleep better, and I would think keeping the truck at this point is your best choice. Like someone else said, sock away some repair money and if you never need it, it can go toward your next truck.

How much is the total interest on a six year payment plan? That will be gone for sure, no bad or good luck involved.
