Talk about a bad day mowing...

Once came across a black snake in a tree while mowing and was closer than I'd like when I spotted him mowing around the tree. Always thought to myself what my reaction would be if one accidently fell on me mowing while under a tree and how much weight I'd loose pretty quickly LOL Don't get me wrong, I know they're harmless, but by the time I'd figure out it's a black snake the weight would we lost by that point.

Then I came across this story...

We had two large forklifts at work. One had a lifting capacity of 18,500. The other had a lifting capacity of 26,000lbs.

Corporate told us we had to get rid of one of the forklifts.

We told the boss it was a no brainer. We keep the forklift with the 18,500 lift capacity.

Boss asked why. I said, it does everything we need except this!!! We can have our semi drivers perform that task.

The big key for keeping the 18,500lb forklift is it has a cab.

That cab saves my life every summer.

It never fails, we have stacks of pipe in racks that doesn't move all year long. But we'll end up with a job for it around August.

I'm allergic to Wasps and Bees.

Do you have any idea of how many wasp nests accumulate in 12" pipe if it hasn't been touched in a year???

I make sure the cab of the forklift is closed up when I touch that pipe.

And buddy when I grab the first rack of pipe it looks like a verse from the Bible about the apocalypse

The are so many wasps and yellow jackets flying around, it looks like your driving through a cloud

Never thought of wasps in pipe... I would imagine losing one's cool while moving several tons of pipe with a forklift could be a disaster.
I was moving a large pile of river rock a few weeks ago, and thousands (?) of yellow jackets were in there. SOOOO glad I was in a cab!

I've seen snake before bouncing finish and brush hog decks wonder how they get up there.

I am sure you are well aware how well a snake is a climbing. Had an office years ago with a brick building right outside my window. It amazed me watching squirrels run up it but the snake's ability to climb on a brick wall surprised me.

Most all my equipment is outside. That's the first thing I do before moving any of it--Check for wasp nests. I typically keep 4-5 cans of wasp spray around the place. The lawnmower is in a 3-sided shed and that shed is favorite for yellowjackets. Those things will build a nest anyplace they have cover. I've had them flying out of my engine hoist, so I keep all the extra holes covered in tape. Under my sawhorses is another favorite spot. I hate them. Yellowjackets will sting you for the fun of it.

I was mowing some tall grass in the front yard. Had a baby bunny come tearing out from under the mower.

Surprised the daylights out of me. I ended up jumping and tripping the seat safety switch

20 years ago, give or take a year or two, I was walking along a trail on my land and I heard something moving around up in a tree. It sounded big, but even when I was right under the tree, I couldn't see what it was. I was thinking that it was a racoon because of how much the branches where moving around. Then all of a sudden, on the lowest branch right over me, but just to the side, a great big black snake fell out of the tree, landed a few feet away, and took off into the thick brush. It was all over in seconds, but it's lived with me like it was yesterday!!!!!

I use expanding foam in some of my gate frames made of square tube and trailer frames as well for the same reason!

Before I redid the shed into a chicken house we had several big wasp nests in there every year as well as under the barn over hang. I don't know if it is the chickens or what but there are no wasp nests in there at all, nor are there any under the barn overhang.

First time ever, I've not found a single wasp nest on my property. Anyone else with chickens experience this?

We only have 5 chickens and still have wasp nests here and there on the fence rails and house eave as well as other places. I have to walk around and spray for them every few weeks.

I'd be concerned they maybe built a new mega nest somewhere!

Same here, when I had chickens. Heck, the yellowjackets will build a nest on fence wire. And even on the lower branches of small trees or shrubs. Ya gotta watch when trimming around them. I've seen nests not more than a foot off the ground. They get really upset when you try and weedwack around them.

They make great camp ornaments if they remain intact when the hornets are gone. Back when I was younger, I took one during deer season from high up in a beech tree with my 30-30. I took one shot at the base of the branch causing it to sag, then took another to bring it down.
I couldn't shoot like that today to save my life...
