I'm planning on taking a welding class this fall at the local vocational school. 60 hours on Arc, MIG, & TIG welding instruction for the low low price of $160 + $40 materials fee. My tax dollars at work /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

Need to supply my own helmet. Looking for recommendations on which one.

From a search here, a couple of you like your Jackson NexGen models, but they seem pricey @ $250+ . Also saw mention of $30 units from Ebay or Homier. I guess I'm interested in a "midrange" model. It will only see ocassional use, but I only want to buy once.

There are some basic Miller/Hobart brand helmets on Ebay for around $150 that are pretty good. The el cheapo $59 ones work ok too. I have an $89 el cheapo but sometimes I find it hard to see what I am doing. The adjustment is not that great.

If you are planning on welding for a living then get the best you can afford.

I have a Miller Auto Darkening Helmet that I purchased from Cyberweld.com.

It has worked very well for me.
