So long story short, I bought a used Takeuchi TB145 excavator for a smoking deal knowing it would need some work on the hydraulic pump.

Hydraulic pump has been removed and brought to a shop for them to look over and come up with some quotes for repair. Its a 2 part pump (main piston pump runs digging functions, aux gear pump runs the slew and dozer blade). The gear pump is shot...the main piston pump has some wear, but nothing serious.

The issue is the shop can not find reasonably priced parts for either the gear or piston pump. My understanding being that these are such small pumps they're generally just replaced, not repaired. Factor in the ridiculous cost of parts + their labor and its going to be more expensive than just replacing the pump.

SO...Ive been on the hunt for a new pump. Easier said than done apparently...

Ive gotten a number of quotes from various vendors, the best of which is about $3900/shipped. Im waiting to hear back from them to confirm for sure its the ENTIRE assembly...piston + gear pump + solenoids, not just the piston pump alone.

I've also been talking to an overseas vendor who has what they claim to be a direct replacement for $1800/shipped.

If the overseas and US vendors were close (say within $1000 or so) Id go with the US vendor for sure...but a $2100 difference really has me considering going with the overseas vendor. The issue Im having (besides the risk of dealing with someone half a world away, not having someone I can talk to face to face) is the part number on the pump theyre offering is slightly different than mine.

My pump is AP2D25LV1RS7.

The pump they're offering is AP2D28LV1RS7. That one number 8 being the difference. Looking at the various photos they sent me (they sent a lot) it looks identical. Its manufactured by Rexroth as where my current pump is Uchida...but Rexroth acquired Uchida some time ago, so I'd expect the replacement to be branded Rexroth.

Here are photos, the first few being my current pump and the others being the new one:

Notice the tag on my current Uchida pump has that arrow pointing to the left...any chance that is the rotation of the pump? Because the tag for the new Rexroth has an arrow for pump rotation pointing in the opposite direction...which might be concerning?

Any tips, info or help would be appreciated. I know it might be safer to go with a more local (local being United States) vendor but a $2300 savings would feel pretty good.

The overspray on the tag from the overseas model has me concerned. Unless the sale was through a third party (eBay, Amazon, PayPal etc) I’d pass. If I was dealing with someone from Japan (country of Origin) that would be different.

Yes good point, I noticed the same thing...wasn't sure if that would come like that from the factory or not...possibly a reman unit? Or just a take-off that got repainted?

$2300 is a lot of money to save...but its also $1800 out the window if the pump shows up and isnt what I need.

Im waiting to hear back from the US vendors...if the assembly they quoted me is infact the entire complete pump assembly I'll probably just cough up the extra money and buy it from them.

Overspray is typical of a rebuild or takeoff. That’s why I’d insist on a third party for that one.

Have you tried to get yours rebuilt?

I would recommend trying ETS hydro in Memphis, TN they are one of the largest rebuilder of Rexroth products in the USA with a very good reputation (I am not affiliated with ETS)

I suspect the 25 vs 28 is a slight change in displacement I.e. 25 cc Vs 28 cc

Rotation should be as viewed while looking at the drive shaft. In this case left hand or counter clockwise

Uchida products are mostly obsolete so you might have ports in slightly different locations

Good luck

I emailed ETS - have not heard back yet.

Thats basically what the seller told me, that the 28 is "slightly more powerful" than the 25. The spools in the machine are set to relieve at whatever pressure they're set to anyway...right? So having a pump with more power isnt going to provide more power to the functions unless I change the relief anyway, right? I dont care about getting more power as long as the 28 vs 25 still works for my machine.

As for rotation, if thats the case then both of those pumps (my current one and the new one from the overseas vendor) appear to be rotating the same way?

Thanks for all the input!

The seller is through Alibaba. I was very hesitant at first but through all my research it really appears its a reputable site, especially if you use their "Trade Assurance" feature. The money basically sits in escrow until I receive and approve of the item...so I suppose if I have record of the seller saying it 'll fit my excavator and shows up and is not the right one, I assume I can return it and get my money back.

I did bring it to a shop for rebuild, the issue is all the rebuild parts are hard to find and priced so high by the time I factor in parts + labor I'll be at or above the cost of a new pump. The shop basically told me small pumps like this are intended to be replaced, not rebuilt...I dont know if thats true or they just dont want to spend their time on a small ticket item? The shop was full of parts as big as my entire excavator...so they probably consider my pump small potatoes.

The bigger 28 cc pump will give you more flow, which equates to more speed of the hydraulics. Since it's just a 3 cc difference, I doubt it will make that much of change.

As for rotation, some pumps can be changed to swap the direction of rotation. On the piston pump, all it takes is to swap the charge pump around 180 degrees. On the gear pump it needs the body to be swapped, although not possible on some pumps. A good hydraulic shop might be able to do or confirm this.

Looking at those two tags, would you assume they're opposite rotation? Or the same?
