Hi I purchased a TB015 excavator for some home projects and I want to go through it before starting to use it. Im good on everything except for two things, changing the hydraulic fluid and an issue with the charging system.. THe manual does not specify what fluid to use, I see ISO68 available locally is that OK to use? Also is draining the tank enough for changing the fluid? Also do I need to prime/bleed the hydraulic pump at all?

The electrical warning light is lite and checking the battery when the engine is running it is not getting a charge. The fuses all look good from the ones I can find and the belt is on and tight on the alternator. One other note, the lights do not work which I haven't investigated but it could be an indication for someone who knows these devices.

So my question for the charging system is what can I test/verify to figure out what is wrong, I am assuming it could be the alternator or the voltage regulator but I do not know where the device is.

Thank You

~ Phil

Check ALL of your electrical connections by separating them and checking the pins or tabs for corrosion first. I would take the alternator to a parts house and get it tested. If it tests good then the issue is probably with the voltage regulator (if it is separate from the alternator). The regulator may be integral with the alternator.

Hi mpilihp,
I just did some control valve work on my TB016 and changed the hydraulic oil. I used iso 68. The low end of the temperature range for the heavy oil is about 40 degrees F. I now wish I had used the iso 46. I also changed the filter and removed the suction screen for cleaning. I was lucky, my system was clean as a whistle. There is a vent plug on the pump.

FWIW, I use multi-viscosity index (multi-vis) hydraulic oil AW ISO 32/46/68 in all of my equipment now. It covers the whole operating temperature spectrum, plus I don't have to stock three different oils. It also meets all the usual manufacturer's specs: Dennison, Cat, Vickers, Prince, Eaton, etc.
