Looking to pick up an 1880 rather than install a MMM on my 2620. Wife says she could handle the smaller tractor for cutting the lawn.....we'll see about that!

Any thoughts or comments about the 1880 would be appreciated.

I have a T1880 that will be 5 years old in October. Currently has about 180 hours on it. If you remember it is a riding mower and not a garden tractor, it should do you well. The gentleman with Messicks, responded on similar post on the T2080 that they are not too bad of a machine, but you can probably get more bang for your bucks. I think it was a diplomatic way of saying he wasn't real impressed the Kohler motors in these units. If you do a search on Kohler Courage motors you will see that some people think that they are the son of Satan.

I had done what I thought was due diligence but neglected to check out that motor. I have not had any problems with it,but I do keep it in mind. I believe that every thing else is top notch.
Would I buy it again? I probably would unless it blows in the next couple of years. Big help I know.

Appreciate the comments. Ran the 1880 for an hour yesterday mowing my weed patch and it seems to do quite well. I'll keep up with the maintenance and switch to synthetic oil once the motor is broken in. I also read the courage comments and am hoping that the units supplied to Kubota are of better quality. Oh well, time will tell.

Further on the 1880...talked to Kubota service rep from corporate about breakin.....suggested running easy for first 50 hours. Ok to run wide open if needed for hills or heavy grass for a short while. Just like the breakin on the B series tractor I have. I wonder how many folks, whether they are using Kubota or not, follow any breakin procedure. My gut feel is that most just start it up and run WOT from the get go and then complain when the motor craps out. My 2 cents.

Well just about got 2 more years and 250 hours. Replaced spindle bearings and deck belts. Is your wife still mowing. Will try to get some years out of it. Have a good summer!
