What kind of grease do you guys use on the finish mower's spindles?

I just bought some Super Lube synthetic grease that I am going to use tomorrow. I was just wondering if there is anything in that product that would be harmful to the bearings in any way?

The active ingredient is called "Syncolon" (PTFE)

The operating temperature range is -45 to 450 degrees.

<font color="red"> I use Amsoil Series 2000 Synthetic Racing Grease . "Dramatically reduces friction and wear for improved performance. Excels at both high- and low-temperature performance. Outperforms other conventional and synthetic greases. AMSOIL Series 2000 Racing Grease keeps greased components in like-new condition."

Thanks Fourteen. I looked at the specs for the Amsoil and they are very comprable to the Super Lube Synthetic that I just purchased.

I think that answers the questions about using the Super Lube. I will go ahead and put the "squeeze" on the tube and lube my spindles...

Boy, that sounded bad... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hi guys,

I am using Mobil 1 synthetic grease, as it is carried by the local Autozone and Shucks auto parts places. About $5 a tube. Here it is.

I've been using it on EVERYTHING for a couple of years now. It all seems to be OK. It certainly is slippery.

Sincerely,

Boy, that looks like good stuff too!

I was going to keep one gun around for the spindles and another one for everything else, but at those prices, why not just use it one everything, you're right!

For our race car (and for the PT, too) we have been very pleased with the Loctite products. Depending on requirement for either a NLGI #1 or #2, we use:

Loctite Viperlube, full synthetic, NLGI #2 {HERE} (better specs than Amsoil and Mobil 1)

Loctite Extreme Pressure Grease, NLGI #1 {HERE}

These run about $6.00 per cartridge on-line at places like Global Stores Group {HERE}

One of the things I really like about the Mobil 1 synthetic grease is it is a bright RED color. It makes it a lot easier to see when it is squishing out of the bearings, and when it gets dirty, it turns a nice brown or black. I know if I have clean grease all the way through when the bright red stuff comes poking through!

Sincerely,

I use Kendall, Lucas, (pretty red color) John Deere, or New Holland (pretty blue) grease. I happen to have a distributer for a neighbor. I get grease for an extremely reduced price. There must be more profit in that stuff than in jewelry! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Anyway, I have a Land Pride finish mower that I bought new in 1990. I've greased the spindles and all other grease fittings religiously every 8 hours. Since there is no hour meter on the finish mower, I can only estimate, but I'd venture to guess that there is 1500 hours on it. None of the spindles are loose or seem to be worn. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I mention this because I think most quality grease that has moly or lithium in it will work fine. I've never used any of the synthetic grease because I haven't had it offered to me for around .50c a tube. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Since that is generally what I pay for name brand, top quality grease, I'm fairly liberal in it's use. To me, that seems to make a difference.
